Pepsi 300 - Stanton Barrett Notes
Stanton Barrett Notes, Quotes: Nashville 300
Busch season ‘starts’ this weekend
Stanton Barrett and the #60 OdoBan Ford team head to the 1.333-mile Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway this week for Saturday’s 300-mile NASCAR Busch Series race.
Barrett finished 21st in the second Nashville race last year, coming from the 33rd starting position to do so. It was his initial race with his own team last season, and showed the tremendous promise the young driver has not only behind the wheel, but as a team leader as well.
An award-winning stunt man in Hollywood - Barrett’s family is often referred to as the “Earnhardts of stunts” - he has been racing and working most of his adult life, his dream to be with a top NASCAR team. Hired by Jack Roush for this season, Barrett moved behind the wheel of the #60 OdoBan Ford, which won the national Busch championship last year with driver Greg Biffle. So far this season, the team has been strong and consistent.

The thoughts of OdoBan Ford driver Stanton Barrett heading into Nashville:
“In a lot of ways it seems the Busch Series season doesn’t really start until the Nashville race. This is the first time all year we have run away from the Winston Cup guys. I don’t have any problem running with them and, in a lot of ways, I enjoy the challenge. But this is the first race where just about everybody in it is running for the Busch championship, and just about everybody is a Busch regular. The Cup guys are over in Martinsville, and we’re running the biggest-market race of the weekend.
“To be honest, I think the Winston Cup guys are missing a great place to race. I think Nashville is a fun track, and there is usually some pretty good racing there. It was built for good racing and I believe they usually get what they wanted.
“The concrete surface helps the racing. It has some rough spots but it’s consistent. You know what to expect and the track doesn’t change as much as an asphalt track. The surface makes the cars faster.
“Usually the faster a track, the more it becomes an engineer’s track and the less a driver’s track. Talladega, for example, is an engineer’s track on qualifying day and turns into a spotter’s track by race day. Running well at Talladega often comes down to making good decisions as to what line to get in. Nashville, though, is a fast track that remains a
driver’s track. You still need a great car and a great crew, and we have both, but the driver is a major part of the equation, and that makes it a lot more fun to run. I enjoy the place.
“I’ve not run there a bunch but I have had some success there. Success always make a track more enjoyable for a driver. We had a good car in the ARCA race there last year, and had a shot to win that race. A few cautions at the end kept us in different positions, and we weren’t able to get everything out of it we felt we deserved. But we had the field covered there. The Busch race (second one at Nashville last year), we were about the best thing out there by the end of the race. We came from a long way back and picked up a lot of positions. We were easily one of the best five cars by the end of the race. The nice thing about that is it was one of my first races back last year.
“That kind of history gives you a pretty good feeling going back to a track. You take what I was able to do with my own team last year at Nashville and couple it with what Roush Racing brings to the table, and we’re pretty excited about the chances for this OdoBan Ford this week.”
