Green Wins in Music City
Finally. It might have taken eight races, but a Busch Grand National regular finally won a Busch race. David Green won the Pepsi 300 at the Nashville Superspeedway after a last-lap pass of Johnny Sauter to become the first series regular to win on the circuit this season. For Green, it was his first visit to victory lane in the Busch series since 1996 and the sixth win of his career. The former series champion beat Sauter to the finish line by .28 seconds. Sauter brought home the runner-up position, followed by Ashton Lewis Jr. in third. Mike Bliss and David Reutimann made out the top five in the finishing order.
LaJoie Takes First Pole of Season
Randy LaJoie won his first pole position of the 2003 season in a record-breaking manner. LaJoie toured the Nashville Superspeedway in 29.382 seconds, at an average speed of 163.324 mph, to win the pole for the Pepsi 300 and set a new Nashville track record. For LaJoie, the pole is the eighth of his Busch Grand National career. Jason Keller will start from the outside pole position, while Scott Riggs and Kevin Grubb start from row two.
