New England 200 - Scott Wimmer Notes

Scott Wimmer Event Preview
No. 23 Stacker 2/YJ Stinger Chevrolet Monte Carlo
New Hampshire International Speedway - July 19, 2003

Wimmer on Loudon: Scott Wimmer, driver of the No. 23 Stacker 2/YJ Stinger Chevrolet, makes his third appearance at the 1-mile track, New Hampshire International Speedway.

"Getting your handle around the bottom of the race track is the best way to get around New Hampshire," said Wimmer. "The track has tight corners and long straightaways, so you really need to concentrate on getting off the corners well to carry the momentum down the straightaway."

"Every year I've raced at New Hampshire the track's characteristics have changed in some way or the other," said Wimmer. "No team will be able to rely on their past setups for several reasons. First, we are racing a couple of months later in the year than past races, so the weather will hotter than before. Secondly, we will have a different surface this time as the track has done some repaving. It will be a challenge for all teams to adjust their past setups and take into consideration the new factors. Our Stacker 2 team plans to really focus on race setups more than qualifying setups because we don't have a ton of practice time. You can't throw qualifying completely, as starting up front is important because track position is a huge factor during the race. One more new thing this year is the addition of soft walls, which I am glad to see the track has taken that upon themselves to do. The competitors really appreciate all that the Bahre family has done to improve the track each year."

Additional Racing: Wimmer will race a car in 24th Annual Nationals held at Slinger Super Speedway in Slinger, Wisconsin. The 225-lap late model feature will also feature Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch and Dick Trickle. There will also be an autograph session featuring the stars of the 2003 Nationals.

"I'm really excited to get an opportunity to run the Slinger Nationals this year," said Wimmer. "It has been a fun tradition for me and my family over the years. My uncle, Larry Detjens, won the inaugural race there back in 1981 and my father still has his trophy in his office today. I've competed in that race six times now and I've come close to winning it, with a couple of second-place finishes. I'm also looking forward to racing against Matt and Dick again, back on our home turf. It's always fun because not only are you going for the win, it is fun to have bragging rights over your fellow Wisconsin buddies for the year."

Equipment: The Stacker 2 Racing team is taking the same car to Loudon that competed earlier this year at both Nashville Superspeedway races, where in the April race it was running in the top-10 before getting taken out by a lap car and in the June race it finished eighth.
