Target House 200 - Scott Wimmer Notes
Scott Wimmer Event Preview
Wimmer on Rockingham: Scott Wimmer, driver of the No. 23 Stacker 2/YJ Stinger Chevrolet, has an 18.2 average finish in five starts at the one-mile track.
"Rockingham is one of those tracks where a driver's talent can make a difference," said Wimmer. "The key to winning at Rockingham is tire conservation, so if the driver can help conserve tires, the team will be in better position at the end of the race. Having a car that handles well is also very important to get you through the turns. I really enjoy running there because it is so challenging and a tough race track to win at."
On the last fall race at Rockingham: Wimmer comments on the last fall race at Rockingham.
"I'm really sad to see the fall race at Rockingham get dropped off the schedule," said Wimmer. "I understand the need to grow our sport, but they don't build tracks with the race surfaces like Rockingham has anymore. The track is so abrasive that it just eats your tires and you can spend a lot of time during the race sliding your car."
Equipment: Wimmer and the No. 23 Stacker 2/YJ Stinger team are taking the same car to Rockingham they competed with earlier this year at Charlotte fall, Kansas where it finished seventh, won with at Pikes Peak and raced at Kentucky where it qualified 10th and finished fifth.
Performance Note: Wimmer posted his first top-10 finish, finishing ninth, in only his eighth career NASCAR Winston Cup start at Phoenix International Raceway last weekend, as well as finishing seventh in the Busch Series event.
