Target House 200 - Ford Post-Race Quotes

SCOTT RIGGS-10-Nestle Nesquik Ford Taurus (Finished 38th) - "I hate it. We didn't have that good of a car and we kept working on it the whole time and made great pit stops and kept making huge gains every time we came into the pits. I don't know if something broke; we were having a little bit of brake trouble out there. Going into that turn down there, we just came in and put on tires, and I think something broke on the brakes or something. The car couldn't get slowed even after I knew it was going into the wall. I couldn't get it slowed down or anything. It's a tough break for us." DID YOU KNOW YOU HAD A PROBLEM WHEN YOU MADE THE PIT STOP? "We were having some brake trouble at that point anyway, but we decided to come in and put four tires on and see if we could make some ground up. I think something broke on the brakes because I couldn't get it slowed down, and straight into the wall it went." YOUR THOUGHTS HEADING INTO HOMESTEAD. "We're in a different position now than we have been lately. We're chasing four other guys now and we need to go in and do the best job we can. It's pretty ridiculous for us to be where we were and then 10 races to be where we are now. It's tough for us."

JASON KELLER-57-Albertsons Ford Taurus (Finished 13th) - YOU OVERCAME STARTING AT THE REAR OF FIELD TO POST A TOP-15 FINISH AND REMAIN IN THE POINTS RACE HEADING INTO HOMESTEAD. "I don't even know what the points are. We made a lot of mistakes and I've said all along that the guy that is going to win this thing is the one that makes the least mistakes and we made a lot of them this week." NONE OF THE POINT CONTENDERS HAVE ASSERTED THEMSELVES THE PAST FEW RACES KEEPING THE POINTS RACE WIDE OPEN HEADING INTO HOMESTEAD. "We just did all we could do today given the circumstances we faced and we battled as hard as we could battle. I have a hard time being excited about the way the whole weekend went, but that's the way it goes." WHAT IS YOUR MENTALITY HEADING INTO HOMESTEAD? "We've just got to get better. We can't make mistakes and we've made mistakes lately. It's a unknown next week with the new configuration and if we can get in there and run good, maybe it will all tun out for us."

BOBBY HAMILTON, JR.-25-Team Marines Ford Taurus (Finished 3rd) - "We went out there and qualified 20th - there was oil on the race track - and we just had to work all day long to get where we are now. Great pit stops. We knew that the 1 was going to be pretty. We could run about the same times, he was pretty good, but overall we're here to win races and that's about it." YOU HAVE CLOSED WITHIN 90 POINTS OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP WITH YOUR THIRD-PLACE FINISH. HOW DOES THAT CHANGE YOUR MINDSET GOING INTO HOMESTEAD? "It doesn't. We're going there to win the race, pure and simple." DID YOU NEED MORE TIME TO CATCH THE NO. 1 CAR? "Yeah, to get to the 8 car. He was starting to come back a little bit, but the 1, they're pretty stout here. The qualifying killed us. It got a little slick on us and qualified 20th. Overall, what can you complain about in all reality? We really wanted to win this thing, but if not, we're going to try to go to Homestead and win it. Another good day for Marines and Timberland Pro, Robert Yates and everybody at Ford. It's just great support with all of my guys and everything, they put me out ahead of some of those guys and I didn't have work as hard on the race track and we got another top-five and that's what we need."

KASEY KAHNE-38-Great Clips Ford Taurus (Finished 18th) - "We stayed out of trouble and that's about it. It was a tough day. We worked on the car all day, made major adjustments and it didn't feel any different. I think we need to do our homework on this track and try to figure it out. We've got plenty of experience now, and we need to be up front and not messing around in the back."

BOBBY HAMILTON, JR. PRESS CONFERENCE
"Running with Jeremy (Mayfield), he's a Winston Cup star, so you can trust him 100 percent, no kind of craziness running against him. Just the roll that we've been on, just hat's off to all of my guys. All of the effort they do at the shop and on pit road, it's just paying off right now, so I'm happy as hell to be here."

YOU HAVE TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT THE WAY THE POINTS RACE IS COMING INTO PICTURE FOR YOU. "I have no idea and don't care to talk about it. The reason that we're in this position is because we went to try to win all of the races; it's as simple as that. We tried to win here today. The qualifying bit us from the start. We had to start 20th and work our way up. We're going to go to Homestead and forget about where we are in points, try to lead every lap, most laps and win the race."

"Yeah, we were missing something - Harold Holly. We didn't have him until about that time and ever since then, the cars drive so good in traffic by themselves. They hardly ever change. The tires, when they go away, it's predicable what the car's going to do. Everything we need right now to win races and stuff like that, we have. He's been 99 percent of the turnaround."

DO YOU THINK THERE SHOULD BE A CHANGE IN THE BUSCH SERIES POINTS SYSTEM TO FAVOR THE GUYS WHO RUN THE SERIES FULL TIME? "They could, but I would just assume give them all of the points and give us the money. They can have the points; we'll do all of that battling later. If we're the best Busch guy that means we've got the most points in all of the Busch contenders. I've thought about it, how they're going to change it, think about it myself as how they could make it better if I had the chance, but that's just something that has been going for years and years. You just couldn't throw a monkey wrench in it like that. For instance, the 21, it would just take them out the situation that they're in. NASCAR, their hands are kinda tied right now. Whatever they come up with, we'll just take advantage of whatever we can do."

THE BUSCH SERIES POINTS RACE IS TIGHTER THAN CUP HEADING INTO HOMESTEAD. DOES THAT PUT THE SPOTLIGHT BACK ON THE BUSCH SERIES DRIVERS IN THE BUSCH RACES? "It does. Ours and the truck series. You can even watch TV, Totally NASCAR, and they're talking about all Kenseth has to do is this. But also, they'll go to our side and the truck side. That's why I said earlier I don't know how they can fix it because over here, trucks and Busch, you're talking about five or six points separating the whole field just about. I can guarantee you we probably have got more viewers on TV now than we did in the beginning."

DID YOU SEE THE CAUTION FLAG COME OUT AT THE END OF THE RACE? "I seen the checkered flag, I didn't see the caution. Then they told me, 'Good job, good job.' I said, 'Are we done?' They said, 'Yeah,' and then I saw the lights blink. I didn't see the caution, but I saw the checkered."
