McMurray Wins Third Straight at Rockingham
“I just love this place,“ said Jamie McMurray following the Target House 200 at North Carolina Speedway. Given his past performance, it is easy to see why. McMurray won the Busch series event on Saturday at Rockingham, his third straight trip to victory lane at “The Rock.” McMurray led the most laps on the day, staying out in front of the field for 126 of the race’s 197 laps, and was at the front when the caution flag flew on the final lap. The victory is the fourth career Busch series win for McMurray and the second this season. Martin Truex Jr. scored his career-best finish, bringing the Chance II Chevrolet home in second place. Bobby Hamilton Jr. captured the third spot and put himself in position to battle for the series championship next week at Homestead. Jeremy Mayfield and David Stremme finished fourth and fifth respectively, giving Dodge three of the top-five finishing positions. Brain Vickers came home in sixth and took over the Busch series points lead heading in to the final week of the season. With a 14th-place finish, Kevin Harvick, who shared the No. 21 Chevrolet with Johnny Sauter, clinched the owner’s championship for Richard Childress.
