Chad Blount was the Raybestos® Rookie of the Race in the Koolerz 300 at
Daytona International Speedway. Blount finished 11th in his first career
Busch Series start at Daytona. He was also the highest qualifying Raybestos®
Rookie, taking the ninth stating position in time trials.
Three Raybestos® Rookies started the Koolerz 300 and two were running at
the finish of the race: Blount and Damon Lusk, who finished 21st. Lusk
finished on the lead lap completing all 120 laps of the race. Coy Gibbs was
the third rookie that competed at Daytona but was involved in an accident
early in the race and finished 39th.
Five Raybestos® Rookies are entered in the Rockingham 200: Blount, Gibbs,
Chris Bingham, Carlos Contreras, and Regan Smith.
No Raybestos® Rookie led a lap at Daytona.
Scott Riggs was the Raybestos® Rookie of the Race in the 2002 Rockingham
200. Riggs finished fourth and was one of only two freshman drivers to
finish on the lead lap. Johnny Sauter, who finished 19th, was the other.
Sauter was the only driver to lead at least one lap in the race. He held the
top spot once for 21 laps and was the only Raybestos® Rookie to lead a lap at
Rockingham.
