TEAM MARINES RACING NOTES & QUOTES:
Bobby Hamilton, Jr. and his No. 25 Team Marines are off to a solid start,
after posting a 7th place finish at the 2003 season opener in Daytona last
weekend. Now, they look forward to facing "The Rock" and to getting back to
racing at its best!
Bobby Hamilton, Jr. on Rockingham:
"Now that we've got Daytona behind us, we can get back to some real racing.
Rockingham isn't just about the aero package like it is at Daytona. It's
about finding the right set-up, having a good motor and shock package, pit
strategy. everything comes into play at this track. As a driver, you have
to find a way to conserve your tires. The track is so abrasive that it'll
just eat them up. After ten laps you'll wish you could come back in and get
new ones because you'll be sliding all over the place. If you are too
aggressive, you'll wear the tires out even faster so you have to pick the
right moments to make a pass. But on the other hand, passing is tough so
when you have even a small shot you have to go for it. If you can find the
setup to make the car good on long runs and on worn out tires and keep your
patience in check you'll have a good day."
Fred Wanke on Rockingham:
"This place will eat up some tires in a hurry. It's a big challenge to get
set up for and be good on the long runs, once the tires wear down. You'll
spend all weekend trying to find just the right set-up and shock package
that will work on the long runs and once the tires are worn out. We had a
really good test here a couple of weeks ago and worked on all of that. We
ran some real competitive lap times and Bobby was real happy with the car,
so I think we'll be in pretty good shape this weekend. "
Testing & Equipment:
The No. 25 Team Marines tested at North Carolina Speedway on February 3-4,
2003. The team will compete with chassis No. 22 this weekend, a new car
that was built during the off-season.
