Goulds Pumps ITT Industries 200 - Stanton Barrett Notes
Stanton Barrett Notes, Quotes: Nazareth 200
Key stand-alone race for Busch Series
Stanton Barrett and the #60 OdoBan Ford team head to the one-mile Nazareth (Pa.) Speedway this week for Sunday’s 200-mile NASCAR Busch Series race.
Coming off a solid ninth-place run this past week at the 1.25-mile Gateway International Raceway near St. Louis and with his experience on one-mile tracks, Barrett could be headed towards a spectacular finish this week. Last season was his initial race with his own team , and showed the tremendous promise the young driver has not only behind the wheel, but as a team leader as well. He joined forces with Roush Racing this year.
An award-winning stunt man in Hollywood - Barrett’s family is often referred to as the “Earnhardts of stunts” - he has been racing and working most of his adult life, his dream to be with a top NASCAR team. Hired by Jack Roush for this season, Barrett moved behind the wheel of the #60 OdoBan Ford, which won the national Busch championship last year with driver Greg Biffle. So far this season, the team has been strong and consistent.

The thoughts of OdoBan Ford driver Stanton Barrett heading into Nazareth:
“As far as the Busch Series is concerned, Nashville, Gateway and the race at Nazareth this week are the ones that start determining how the season is going to go for everyone. Nazareth is our third ‘stand-alone’ race since virtually all the Winston Cup guys will be at Charlotte for the Winston.
“I don’t have any problems running with the Cup guys and, in a lot of ways, I really enjoy it. But these are the races that give the Busch Series regulars a chance to settle things among themselves, so it’s a pretty important race from that standpoint.
“Nazareth is a good test for drivers and for crews. It’s an oval but it almost comes across as a road course. It’s a mile so it’s officially considered a superspeedway but, in a lot of ways, it drives like a short track. The layout of the track is very interesting. It drives like a road-course with three weird corners. It’s a different style track where set-up becomes even more important. But, we look forward to going there; Greg Biffle had a lot of success there so we should have good notes. Personally, I like that style of track and I’ve done all right the times I’ve been there before, so I look forward to going.”
“After everything that went on last week at Gateway, that should stimulate even more interest in the race this week. That was a pretty bizarre ending. You have to feel for Mike Bliss (who ran out of gas on the final lap while leading) and you have to be happy for Scott Riggs (who won the race because of it). That’s one of those races where we had thousands and people but, in 20 years, you will have the attendance will be closer to a million – everybody will claim he was there for that one.
“That might be the same this week at Nazareth. We’re going to do everything we can to get this OdoBan Taurus in a position to do some great things.”
