Ashton Lewis, Jr. on Memphis:
"I consider Memphis to be somewhat similar at least in shape to Richmond,
but it has a lot less banking and carries slower speeds. Finding the right
setup can be tough. There is a bump going into turn one and another one
down the back straightaway that can upset the car if you don't get it just
right. This is one of the hardest tracks we go to on brakes. You're on
them at both ends of the track so you need them to last through the end of
the race. You're going to be in trouble if they wear out too fast."
Ashton Lewis, Jr. on His Past Experience at Memphis:
"We ran well there in 2001, leaving with a top-10 finish but last year we
really struggled. We weren't nearly as competitive as far as speed goes and
we had our fair share of other problems throughout the race. Still, I think
we learned some things from it. We're looking forward to going back this
weekend, using what we've learned the last two years there and coming home
with another solid run under our belt."
Equipment:
The No. 46 Civil Air Patrol Racing team will compete with chassis No. 11
this weekend in the Sam's Town 250. Lewis, Jr. competed with chassis No. 11
in earlier events this season at Milwaukee (12th), New Hampshire (11th) and
the fall Bristol event (10th).
Testing:
The No. 46 Civil Air Patrol Racing team tested Monday and Tuesday at Atlanta
Motor Speedway in preparation for the Aaron's 312 on October 25, 2003.
