Cabela's 250 - Rookie Qualifying Quotes
DAMON LUSK, NO. 6 STA-RITE PUMPS DODGE:
"That's not good enough. We're missing something, I don't know what. The
car has driven decent since we've been here. Not great, but not bad. We've
been in the 20's all weekend. I don't know that that's bad. We just wanted to
run a lot better than that. I ran real good here in the ARCA car. We'll work
on it some more. We're getting it, just a little at a time." THE WEATHER
CHANGED FROM PRACTICE TO QUALIFYING. "We probably got the benefit of the doubt
on that last run but still we didn't pick up like we needed to. We're working
hard, hard as we can. We'll get it. We're just missing one little thing.
The car feels fine, a little bit tight. A little bit tight we should be fifth
but we're a little tight and we're 20th. We'll work on it some more and see
what we can get."
JASON WHITE, NO. 0 EAGLE JET INTERNATIONAL CHEVROLET:
"The car was dragging on the track all day long and we threw a wild guess at
it and got the car off the track from grinding so much. I picked up a lot so
now we've got to go and fine tune it to get it better." ARE YOU HAPPY WITH
THAT LAP? "I wish we could go faster but I'm glad we're not dragging the track
anymore. We fixed that problem so now we've got to get more speed out of it."
JOEY CLANTON, NO. 27 TRIMSPA PONTIAC:
"We need to be able to run mock runs and we didn't get to do it today. We
brought a new racecar today, the first time out this year, and we're trying to
tweak on it a little bit. I don't think it's so much needing laps here, we
just need some qualifying runs. We didn't get it today just trying to work on
the car, trying to make it better. We're going to go back to our basic stuff,
like we ran the last couple of weeks, and change it back over and see if we
can't get it a little better. We were good in practice; we're just too snug, too
tight, in qualifying. We'll try to go back and get the car worked out for
the race
setup. The car was fast today in (race) practice. Twenty or thirty laps on
a set of tires and we're running a couple of tenths faster than some of the
faster guys. The car is real consistent." YOUR TEAM HAS BEEN ON A ROLL THIS
SUMMER. "I think it's teamwork gelling together. Everybody has come together
working in the same motion. Everybody has focused on one goal and that's the
Raybestos® Rookie of the Year. I think it's starting to come together with the
whole team, the whole atmosphere of a team being around us that everybody is
pulling for the same goal. It kind of drives people to do their best and
right now I think we are starting to come together and I think we are going to
have better runs in the future."
CHAD BLOUNT IN THE NO. 26 MILLER HIGH LIFE DODGE WAS THE HIGHEST QUALIFYING
RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE AT MICHIGAN. HE TOOK TOP QUALIFYING ROOKIE HONORS FOR THE
FIFTH TIME THIS SEASON.
"That's not too bad. These Miller High Life guys worked their butts off
today. We got a couple of laps in the racetrack and we had just a little bit of
trouble with the motor, I think with the filter systems. Rather than take a
chance we just decided to put our backup motor in there so we didn't get to work
on any qualifying trim stuff. This is a new team with me and a brand new
racecar. What can I say? These guys did really good. I felt like maybe the
driver maybe left a little bit out there but like I said we didn't get any
qualifying runs in today. I'm just real happy for these Miller High Life Dodge guys
and we'll just look forward to the race here." DID YOU GET A BREAK WITH THE
CLOUD COVER IN QUALIFYING? "I don't know. We were kind of behind the eight
ball when we unloaded today. Maybe it helped us a little bit, maybe it hurt
us, I really don't know. We're a little bit tight but we'll take that. We've
got a long race Saturday. Qualifying is just to see where you start anyway."
BUDDY BAKER IS HELPING YOU THIS WEEKEND. "Buddy is my bodyguard. With me
being little and all, and Buddy is a pretty big guy, I figured it would be good
(smiles). Buddy has been helping me out a little bit. He's a great guy. He's
won a couple of races in his day. Everything that Buddy has told me, he'll
either say 'Listen to me' or 'It's up to you' and everything that he's said
listen to me he's been right. I'm just going to take that to the bank."
