Little Trees 300 - Jason Schuler Notes
Jason Schuler Notes
Kansas City, KS. (October 4, 2003). Out of 51 entries for the Mr. Goodcents 300, Havill-Spoerl Racing put 2 cars in the 43 car field for the Saturday show at Kansas Speedway. Not only was it a good showing for the Wisconsin based team, but it proved the determination of each and every person that works week in and week out to put the cars on the track. Only 6 crew members were on hand to ready both cars for inspection and qualifying on Thursday and Friday, the team swelled to a total of 11 crew members for race day.
During qualifying on Friday Josh Richeson put the #67 Havill-Spoerl/Raceceiver Ford Taurus in the field in the 33rd position. Jason Schuler struggled in qualifying and made the field in the #73 Havill-Spoerl Ford Taurus as a provisional in 43rd position.
At the start of Saturdays race both cars began moving up through the field, though Josh Richeson’s day ended on lap 31 due to a vibration. Jason drove a smooth, consistent, trouble free race, with the pit crew making flawless stops all day long. The end result was a solid 22nd place finish for the first year team. The finish moved Jason to 29th position in 2003 Busch Series Driver Points.
It has been an up and down year for Jason and the Havill-Spoerl team, some missed races, mechanical problems. The Kansas performance by the team and driver demonstrated their will. As competitive as the Busch Series is, any team putting 2 cars in the field is an accomplishment. For a small team to do it, with half the crew needed for just one car, speaks of their potential.
