Kenseth Wins at Charlotte
The Winston Cup points leader won his second Busch Series race of the season. Matt Kenseth, who leads the Winston Cup standings by 20 points, outdistanced the field to win the Carquest Auto Parts 300 at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Kenseth took the checkered flag ahead of rookie Kyle Busch, who was making his first career Busch Series start. Busch’s second-place effort set a record for the highest finish in a series debut. For Kenseth, it was his 14th career Busch win. Scott Riggs finished the event in the third position, while Todd Bodine and Mike Bliss rounded out the top five in the finishing order. With his fourth-place finish, Bodine retakes the Busch Series point lead, now leading by 98 points over David Green.
Harvick Wins LMS Busch Series Pole
Kevin Harvick won the pole position for the Carquest Auto Parts 300 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, setting a new track record in the process. Harvick turned a qualifying lap in 29.277 seconds, at an average speed of 184.445 mph, besting Ron Hornaday‘s track record set last season. Tony Raines earned his career-best staring spot, starting on the outside of the front row. Scott Riggs and Michael Waltrip make out row number two on the starting grid.
