Meijer 300 - Todd Bodine Notes
BODINE & MONSTER RACING TEAM LOOK FOR SECOND VICTORY AT KENTUCKY SPEEDWAY
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (June 12, 2003) - After a disappointing race in last Saturday's
Trace Adkins Chrome 300 at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway, Todd Bodine
and the Monster racing team are looking forward to returning to their pattern
of strong finishes at Kentucky Speedway. Bodine enters the Meijer 300 at
Kentucky as the winner of last year's event, where he finished in dramatic
fashion by edging 2002 Busch Series champion Greg Biffle to take the checkered
flag by .036 seconds.
Todd Bodine and Herzog Jackson Motorsports (HJM) will once again be partnering
with Monster, the leading online global career network, marking the second
pairing between the two this season. Debuting their sponsorship last weekend
at Nashville (Tenn.) Superspeedway, the sponsorship also includes the event
at The Milwaukee (Wisc.) Mile on June 29.
Currently sitting in third place in the NASCAR Busch Series driver's points
standings, Bodine is a mere 24 points out of the lead. After previously
leading the points race nine out of the last 15 weeks of the Busch Series
season, Bodine's lead slipped two spots after his 26th place finish at Nashville.
"I'm not too concerned with a 26th place finish," stated Bodine. "Sure,
it was a disappointment, but it was just a fluke thing. Our [Team] Amick
engines have been second to none all season, and things like this are bound
to happen at some point. I know that this team has the capabilities to
win the championship, and we're just going to keep digging and hopefully
get this Monster Chevy into victory lane."
Bodine will once again be pulling double duty, as he will be he splitting
his time between the Busch Series event at Kentucky Speedway and the Winston
Cup event at Michigan International Speedway. Because Bodine will not be
able to be in Kentucky in time for Friday's initial practice, veteran Busch
Series driver Mike McLaughlin will be practicing the No. 92, something he
has done in all non-companion events this season.
"This is super news. Todd's an outstanding competitor, and I'm glad to
hear that he will do double duty during our weekend to defend his title
at Kentucky," Kentucky Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager
Mark F. Cassis said upon hearing that Bodine would be participating in this
weekend's Meijer 300. "Todd's presence as our defending champion adds another
bonus to this event, which is on track to sell out for the third straight
year."
