Meijer 300 - Scott Wimmer Notes
Scott Wimmer Event Preview
Wimmer on Kentucky Speedway: Scott Wimmer, driver of the No. 23 Stacker 2/Stamina RX Chevrolet, seeks to repeat his top-five finish he scored in last year's event at Kentucky Speedway.
"Kentucky is probably the best stand alone race on the Busch circuit," said Wimmer. "The facility is really nice as well as the track. They have a great turnout each race by the fans. It is just awesome to have over 70,000 people watching the race at a Busch only event. It actually seems more exciting with it being a night race as well."
"Kentucky is a lot like the other 1.5-mile tracks on the circuit, which is why so many Winston Cup teams test there a lot," said Wimmer. "You have to handle well and have a lot of horsepower to be successful there. The best line around the track is at the bottom. Hopefully, the groove has widened out a bit now that the track is older. Basically, it comes down to being able to get through corners fast and have horsepower, especially down the frontstretch and through the elevation changes. I believe we have a competitive package for this weekend and I hope we can run a little better to improve on our top-five finish from last year."
Father's Day: Sunday is Father's Day and as most racing father's are, Wimmer's father, Ron, was an integral part of his start in racing.
"I won't be able to spend Father's Day with my dad this weekend as he will be in Odessa, Missouri at I-70 Speedway at the ASA race helping my brother, Chris, who is racing this weekend," said Wimmer. "He works on the car for my brother and serves as crew chief, just like he did for me when I started out. My dad is the most important part of mine and my brother's racing career, both from a financial and labor standpoint. He's the biggest part of why I'm where I am today. He came to the race last weekend in Nashville, so I gave him his Father's Day presents early. I gave him a boom box radio to listen to, as he's in the construction business and spends a lot of time out in the field. I also bought him a new pair of CAT work boots which he really loved."
Equipment: The Stacker 2/Stamina RX Racing team is taking the same car to Kentucky that competed earlier this year at California and Charlotte.
Appearance: Wimmer will sign autographs on Saturday, June 14th at the W&H Souvenir trailer on Kentucky Speedway property. Please check with the souvenir trailer to confirm time of signing.
