Hamilton Jr. Claims Second Career Win
Bobby Hamilton Jr. had the fastest car on Saturday night at Kentucky Speedway but had to overcome adversity to put it in victory lane. Hamilton passed Jason Keller with three laps remaining in the Meijer 300 to capture his first victory of the season and the second of his career. Although Hamilton dominated the early goings at Kentucky, he had to recover from an extra pit stop after a loose lug nut was discovered by a NASCAR official. Hamilton fought back through the field after restarting the event from the 12th position, the last car on the lead lap. Keller led for 24 laps but had to settle for the runner-up spot. Ron Hornaday crossed the stripe in third, while pole sitter Stacy Compton finished fourth. Scott Wimmer rounded out the top five in the finishing order. David Green came home in the eighth position and reclaimed the Busch series points lead after Scott Riggs was involved in a late accident.
Compton Takes Pole at Kentucky
Stacy Compton won the pole position for the Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway and set a new track record. Compton turned in a qualifying lap of 30.615 seconds, at an average speed of 176.384 mph, to earn his first pole of the 2003 season and the first of his Busch series career. Bobby Hamilton Jr. will join Compton on the front row, starting from the second spot, while David Green and Ron Hornaday start from row two. Points leader Scott Riggs will roll off from the fifth position.
