Vickers Claims First Busch Series Win
This time it didn’t slip away. Brain Vickers was able to capture his first career Busch series victory, taking the checkered flag in the Kroger 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Vickers took the lead for the final time with 19 laps remaining and held off Jason Keller to win by 2.296 seconds. The 19-year-old Vickers was able to make his first trip to victory lane in 47 Busch series starts. Keller finished in the runner-up position at IRP for the second straight year. Stacy Compton crossed the finish line in third, while Shane Hmiel and points leader Scott Riggs rounded out the top-five spots in the finishing order.
Hmiel on Pole at IRP
Shane Hmiel won the pole position for tonight’s Kroger 200 at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Hmiel turned in a qualifying lap of 22.311 seconds, at an average speed of 110.690 mph, to capture his third career pole, his first of the 2003 season. David Green will join Hmiel on the front row, starting from the second spot. Brian Vickers and Kyle Busch make out row two on the starting grid.
