Ford 300 - Jason Keller Notes
ALBERTSONS/Jason Keller
Homestead Notes:
Quotes:
Homestead-Miami Speedway... Keller has eight starts at Homestead-Miami Speedway, but with the new configuration of the track it's a whole new ball game. Keller and the Albertsons team participated in a one-day test session at the track in preparation for the final NASCAR Busch Series race of the season.
"Homestead doesn't even feel like it's the same place," said Keller. "I can't find one comparison to the way it used to be. Even the color of the surface is entirely different. I wish I had a better feel for it and say it reminded me of another track. There is so much banking and it's so wide, it is tough to find out what line is the quickest around the track. From a selfish stand point I wish we had the old configuration back, but everyone is going through this learning process. No one team really has a huge edge over another."
On the championship... The top six drivers contending for the NASCAR Busch Series trophy are separated by just 89 points. Keller sits fourth in the closest title battle in the history of the NASCAR Busch Series. The standings have shuffled every weekend, and all six positions are up for grabs.
"This season hasn't met our expectations, but I know there are numerous teams that wish they were in our position," said Keller. "It has been a season of ups and downs. Every time we thought we were where we needed to be, something seemed to happen. I know I should be more excited because this is the first time in my career that I have a mathematical chance at the championship heading into the final race.
"We would need a lot of things to go our way to win the championship, but we can't dictate what others are going to do. We are going to focus on this one race, do the best that we can and hope for a great outcome. It will be important for this team to run well this week to really feel good about this season and to start building for next year."
A successful three years... This weekend's race will mark the end of a three-year relationship between Albertsons, Keller and ppc Racing. Albertsons has been one of the most successful NASCAR Busch Series sponsors in that time. Keller and ppc Racing have earned six wins, four pole positions, 41 top five's and 61 top 10's in the No. 57 Albertsons Ford Taurus. Heading into Homestead, Keller will have also finished in the top five in the championship standings every year Albertsons has been his sponsor.
