Ford 300 - Homestead-Miami Speedway

Kahne Wins at Homestead, Vickers Takes 2003 Championship
The Young Guns ruled in Miami. 23-year-old Kasey Kahne won the season-ending Ford 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, while 20-year-old Brian Vickers took the 2003 Busch series championship, becoming the youngest champion in series history. Kahne held off Martin Truex Jr. by 0.59 seconds to take the checkered flag in the season finale. Kahne led 29 of the race’s 200 laps on the way to his first win in his 54th start. Truex crossed the finish line in the runner-up position, followed by Bobby Hamilton Jr. in third. Jason Leffler finished in the fourth spot and Ashton Lewis Jr. rounded out the top five. Brain Vickers clinched the series championship with an 11th-place finish on Saturday, while David Green finished two spots ahead in ninth. Vickers won the title over Green by 14 points, giving Hendrick Motorsports a championship in all three of NASCAR’s premier series.

Biffle Grabs Busch Pole at Homestead
Greg Biffle won the final Busch series pole position of the 2003 season, grabbing the top starting spot for the Ford 300 at the new Homestead-Miami Speedway. Biffle qualified in 30.437 seconds, at an average speed of 177.416 mph, to earn his second pole of the season and the ninth of his career. Bobby Hamilton Jr. will join Biffle on the front row, starting from the outside pole position. Kasey Kahne and Kevin Harvick make out row two, while Jamie McMurray starts fifth. Points leader Brain Vickers will roll off from the sixth starting spot.
