Winn-Dixie 200 - Scott Wimmer Notes
Scott Wimmer Event Preview
Wimmer on Darlington: Scott Wimmer, driver of the No. 23 Stacker 2/YJ Stinger Chevrolet, returns to Darlington Raceway for the sixth time in his NASCAR Busch Series career.
"It is always exciting to return to Darlington," said Wimmer. "When we were there in the spring, we ran real strong all day long, but ended up having some trouble. We were running in the second position, but wound up in the wall. We're taking the same car back there that we ran in the spring. This car has been one of our best cars.. A real workhorse. We tend to run this car more than any other in our stable. It won Pikes Peak last month, so hopefully we can have the same results with it this time."
"Darlington is a track where handling is key," said Wimmer. "The tires are good for about two laps then it is all about how your car handles. The fastest way around the track is at the top and there is a very small margin for error running that close to the wall. If you lose your focus, it is very easy to earn a 'Darlington Stripe.' Some drivers seem to like Darlington and others do not. Fortunately, I do, because Bill Davis Racing has a good Darlington race package. Ward Burton has won there before and we seem to get our cars to handle very well there."
Equipment: Wimmer and the Stacker 2/YJ Stinger team are taking the same car to Darlington they won with earlier this year at Pikes Peak International Raceway. It also competed earlier this year at Kentucky where it qualified 10th and finished fifth.
Team Notes: Wimmer spent Tuesday, Aug. 27th and Wednesday, Aug. 28th testing at Kentucky Speedway.
