darlingtonraceway.com 200 - Todd Bodine Notes
HERZOG JACKSON MOTORSPORTS READY TO "TAME" DARLINGTON
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 10, 2003) - Todd Bodine and the Herzog Jackson Motorsports
racing team will travel to Darlington, S.C. this weekend for the running
of the Darlingtonraceway.com 200. The raceway, so aptly called the track
"Too Tough to Tame", has claimed its share of victims over the years. But,
with Bodine's experience and a good car, the No. 92 team believe they have
what it takes to make it to Darlington's prestigious victory lane.
Coming off an exciting weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the No. 92 dominated
most of the race until a spin into the infield on lap 168 spoiled a chance
for the win. Despite the unfortunate result, Bodine is confident in the
integrity of his crew and car. "My crew has just been awesome," stated
Bodine. "Since Daytona we've had a car capable of winning every race.
It hasn't seemed to matter where we started the race, because the car has
made it to the front every time. Tony [Liberati] and the guys have really
put together some great race cars, and I'm just the guy lucky enough to
drive 'em."
Bodine is no stranger to the "Lady in Black". Running at the famed 1.366-mile
oval eighteen times in the Busch series alone, he has racked up thirteen
top-ten finishes and six top-fives, translating into an over 75 percent
top-ten finish rate. "I like this track because it?s a driver's track",
stated Bodine. "When you run at a place like Darlington you know it's going
to be work the entire 200 miles. If you've run here 30 times or three,
there is nothing that can prepare you for the level of difficulty when running
here."
Herzog Jackson Motorsports has run at Darlington six times previously, finishing
as high as eighth in March of 2002.The top-10 finish marked the initial
pairing of Bodine and the No. 92 organization, which is currently still
searching for a sponsor. "What Todd has brought to the table is a level
of consistency", team owner Randy Herzog stated. "He not only has the experience
of running in the Busch series, but a racecar driver's mentality. He is
able to give us feedback in a matter of seconds, and that?s what it takes
to be competitive in NASCAR."
Crew chief Tony "Rambo" Liberati and his team have prepared their Chevrolet
Monte Carlo for this weekend's 147-lap event. The car was last utilized
at Rockingham (N.C.) in February of this year, finishing in third place.
"I've had some success at Darlington in the past, but until I get to victory
lane I won't be satisfied," said Bodine, "and I believe the Herzog Jackson
Chevy can get me there".
Live television coverage of the Darlingtonraceway.com 200 will begin at
12:30 pm EST on FX. MRN Radio will also broadcast the event live beginning
at 12:30 pm EST.
