TEAM MARINES RACING NOTES & QUOTES:
On to tame the "track too tough to tame":
Bobby Hamilton, Jr. and the No. 25 Team Marines head to Darlington Raceway,
one of the toughest tracks on the NASCAR circuit, this weekend for the
Darlingtonraceway.com 200. In his last four visits to the famed raceway,
Hamilton, Jr. has posted one top-five and three top-10 finishes.
Bobby Hamilton, Jr. on Darlington:
"Some guys dread going to Darlington, but I love it," said Hamilton, Jr. "I
have had some good runs there. It's always an exciting race and you just
never know what's going to happen. It is a demanding track, physically and
mentally. You really have to race the track as opposed to racing your
fellow competitors. The surface of the track is so abraisive and eats the
tires up so quickly that you will be begging to come in for more tires after
just a few laps. You have to be patient but at the same time you can't
give up to much track position because it's tough to get those spots back.
The person who carefully manages their tires, has great pit stops and stays
out of trouble will win this race."
Fred Wanke on Darlington:
"Darlington is just a tough, old track," said Wanke. "It's grueling on both
the car and the driver. The track is shaped like an egg. Turns three and
four are much tighter with less banking than one and two. Because of the
way the asphalt surface eats up the tires, tire management plays a big role
here. This has nothing to do with your aero package. This is like getting
back to the roots of racing. The driver really has to like to race here and
know how to race here otherwise it can be a very long day."
Testing & Equipment:
The No. 25 Team Marines will compete with chassis No. 22 this weekend at
Darlington Raceway. This is the same chassis that the team competed with in
Rockingham and posted a 13th place finish.
