Winn-Dixie 250 - Jason Schuler Notes
Cambridge, Wisconsin – July 2, 2003 – After two weeks at home for The Milwaukee Mile Busch race, Jason Schuler and the Havill-Spoerl Racing team are off to Daytona for the July 4th Busch race. The team is looking for a little more luck at Daytona than they have had lately. At Milwaukee, their home track, rain washed out qualifying which placed them towards the back of the pack based on owner points. On an early pit stop the tem was assessed a one lap penalty for being out of the pit box. “The pits at the Mile are real tight and I knew we were out of the box, but the crew started on the car before I could move it back” Jason explained.
Due to lack of practice time and no qualifying run, the team never got a handle on the chassis. “ The car was inconsistent from one set of tires to the other, so we could really not adjust anything on the stops, so I just rode it out”, Jason said of his day. Riding it out gave the team a 26th place finish, with all that went on, Jason still brought the car home only 5 laps down, and more importantly, another full race run for the team.
Heading into Daytona, the team is looking for another full race run, at the season opener in February their run was cut short, but at Talladega, Jason avoided the big wreck and brought the car home in 19th. “We went into Daytona with a new body and did not get the chance to really learn a lot, but at Talladega we really improved on the car and are ready for another shot at Daytona” Jason said.
So it is back to Daytona and hopefully a good start to the second half of the season.
