Stacker 200 - Rookie Post-Race Quotes
COY GIBBS IN THE NO. 18 MBNA CHEVROLET WAS THE RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE OF THE RACE
AT DOVER. HE FINISHED 19TH AND TOOK TOP RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE HONORS FOR THE
EIGHTH TIME THIS SEASON.
"We had a tough day but at least we were able to run the whole race. I just
wish we could have had a better finish for MBNA and Raybestos®. We'll take
what we learned here today and try to do better next time we come here to
Dover."
DAVID STREMME, NO. 1 YELLOW TRANSPORTATION DODGE:
"The yellow before that somebody said there was oil on the track. My car
didn't have a problem. I didn't see anything. We went back green, like a lap
later, and all of a sudden there is oil everywhere. I saw David (Green) hit it
and I tired turning and I hit it and that's all I could do. We had an awesome
racecar. The times we were turning in practice and what we were running
there at the beginning of the race I felt like we were going to have a pretty good
car and then after that it was just get what we could. The car was tore up a
little bit and I got in the fence a little bit after that but I just
basically tried to stay out of everybody's way and get some more experience. I think
all the crush panels are knocked out. This is the first time that I've run a
left-sided exhaust car and I look forward to next year. Hopefully NASCAR will
have it go out the right side. It wasn't a bad day but it wasn't a good day,
either. I get to go do an ARCA race next week and then we look forward to
Memphis or Charlotte, whatever comes after Kansas."
JOEY CLANTON, NO. 27 TRIMSPA PONTIAC:
"Evidently the alternator wire broke. The motor never ran all day long and
we just fought it all day long. The motor wouldn't turn but about 8,500 rpms,
nothing like it ran this morning. We finally had to come in because it
completely died off and we had to come in and do something. We thought it was the
carburetor. We tried to hold on all day
long what we could. I thought we were going to get a good break there when
that first caution come out but I got into the wall when it come off the corner
and it started missing bad. I looked down and all of a sudden I touched the
wall trying to figure out what was going on. The guys on the team worked
their hearts out. We came in, found out what it was, fixed it, and went back out.
We were hoping for a better day than today." DO YOU FEEL FORTUANTE THAT YOU
WERE NOT INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT? "There wasn't too many of them. They guys
actually kept their cool today. Right there at the beginning they were
dicing pretty hard and we just backed off. We didn't have anything to run with
them so there wasn't any sense in getting up in the middle of it. When it got
stretched out, I think the guys kept their heads on them all day long and kept
the cars in one piece." ARE YOU SURPRISED THE RACE WAS SO CLEAN? "I think
because of that the race track got real racy and there were a lot of grooves out
there so the guys had a lot of places to go to figure out where they needed to
be. We just came up a little short on our end. I would have loved to have
been able to be up there racing with them."
JASON WHITE, NO. 0 EAGLE JET INTERNATIONAL CHEVROLET:
"We finally finished one. It's been a few weeks since we finished one so
that was the main thing. We wanted to go out there and try and stay out of
trouble and finish the race. That was the main thing and that's what we ended up
doing, so it was a pretty good day." DID YOU HAVE ANY CLOSE CALLS? "The 44
car spun out in front of us. That was pretty close but other than that it was a
pretty good day." HOW PHYSICALLY DEMANDING IS THIS TRACK? "It's hard.
You've always got to be on top of the wheel and it's always pushing you down in
the seat. It's probably more demanding than most, this place and Bristol. It's
pretty tough."
