MBNA Armed Forces Family 200 - Stanton Barrett Notes
Stanton Barrett Notes, Quotes: Dover 200
‘Big race, on and off the track’
Stanton Barrett and the #60 OdoBan Taurus NASCAR Busch Series team head to the one-mile Dover (Del.) International Speedway this week for Saturday’s 200-miler.
Coming off solid runs the past several weeks and with his experience on tight tracks like Dover, Barrett could be headed towards a spectacular finish this week. Last season was his initial race with his own team, and showed the tremendous promise the young driver has not only behind the wheel, but as a team leader as well. He joined forces with Roush Racing this year.
An award-winning stunt man in Hollywood - Barrett’s family is often referred to as the “Earnhardts of stunts” - he has been racing and working most of his adult life, his dream to be with a top NASCAR team. Hired by Jack Roush for this season, Barrett moved behind the wheel of the #60 OdoBan Ford, which won the national Busch championship last year with driver Greg Biffle. So far this season, the team has been strong and consistent.

The thoughts of OdoBan Ford driver Stanton Barrett heading into Dover:
“Coming off of Charlotte, as big a race as this is for so many teams and drivers, letting down a little bit just isn’t an option. You have to come off of the Charlotte race going as hard as you can, and you have to keep moving hard. It’s Dover and then Nashville and on down the line. And every race is really important.
“Dover is important for a number of reasons. The first, obviously, is the face that it is the next race. Every race is important for points, for purse money and for a lot of reasons. But each one is important simply from the fact that it is what we do – we race. And every week we’re working hard to run well and to win.
“Dover is important, too, for its’ off-track aspects. It’s a good opportunity to market ourselves as teams, drivers, and sponsors anytime we go to that area because we aren’t in that area many times. That area being important because it’s relatively close to some very major media markets - Baltimore, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, even Trenton and New York City. I think it’s good any time NASCAR thinks of expanding to new markets and I believe Dover is a prime example of a positive impact that ‘new’ markets can have on
NASCAR. The track is good, the fans are great, they have a great turnout for those events, and that makes it a lot of fun.
“Dover is its own creation and is different than most other tracks. But in a lot of ways, it’s the same deal as every week - we must qualify well and start with good track
position. Everyone has good motors, cars, and people. It all boils down to whether or not you can find the right setup and the way you continually work to make the car better. Dover normally gets very tight, so we have to work on getting the car to turn in the corners. If you can do that, you will normally be very competitive. If you can’t get the car to turn, it can make for a very long day.”
“Dover is more physically demanding than any other track on the circuit, with maybe the exception of Bristol. The speeds and the banking make it a little bit rougher. It seems as if you’re always working harder to steer the car and that’s what makes it physically demanding.
“We’re looking forward to a good weekend with this OdoBan Taurus team.”
