MBNA Armed Forces Family 200 - Jason Schuler Notes
Jason Schuler will be attempting to qualify the Havill-Spoerl Racing Ford Taurus on Friday for the Dover Busch race. For the 2003 season Jason has qualified for 11 races and is currently in 30th position in NASCAR Busch Series points. While 2003 has been a struggle at times for Jason and his small-devoted team, they are working hard at making it in the Busch Series. How hard? How devoted? Havill-Spoerl Racing is based in Cambridge, Wisconsin. For a frame of reference, Cambridge is 60 miles west of Milwaukee, 133 miles northwest of Chicago, and only 956 miles from Charlotte.
The team is owned by Daryl Spoerl who has multi Havill-Spoerl car dealerships in the Cambridge - Fort Atkinson – Jefferson, Wisconsin area. The team, like many this season, is running the full schedule despite the lack of a main sponsor. Jason and his team are dedicated to making the races, running well and building the team as the season goes along. Jason’s best finishes for the season is a 19th at Talladega and a 20th at Gateway.
The Dover qualifying attempt comes after a disappointing week at Charlotte. Heavy rains washed out most of practice and the changing weather played havoc with setups. In the end Jason just managed to get in 15 practice laps before his qualifying attempt which led to a 43rd fast time. Due to the large car count and the 36th through 43rd positions being set by provisionals, Jason was bumped from the field.
For Jason and his team it is now on to Dover, then Nashville, Kentucky….., all the while putting in the miles and working hard.
