Civil Air Patrol Racing
Ashton Lewis, Jr. Race Preview
Dover International Speedway
MBNA Platinum 200
May 31, 2003
CAP Racing Notes & Quotes:
Ashton Lewis, Jr. has three top-20 finishes at Dover International Speedway,
but in seven starts has been unable to break into the top-10. The No. 46
Civil Air Patrol Racing team has high hopes that this could be their week.
With an 8th place finish last weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway, the team has
lot of momentum going into the first of two NASCAR Busch Series events of
the season at "The Monster Mile."
Driver, Ashton Lewis, Jr. on Dover:
"I enjoy racing at Dover even though we have struggled there in the past,"
said Lewis, Jr. "It has notoriously not been one of our better tracks so we
're looking to improve on that this weekend. We feel like we learned a lot
in the fall race there last year as far as set-up and getting the car to
handle, so we feel much more confident going into this event than we did
last year. We'll work off the momentum we've got going after our strong
showing last weekend at Lowe's and hope to keep that momentum going with
another solid finish at Dover. With it being Charlie's (Lewis) birthday on
Saturday, we'd love nothing more than to give him an all expenses paid trip
to victory lane."
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHARLIE!
Crew chief, Charlie Lewis will turn 29 on Saturday. What's the best
birthday gift he could receive? Leading the Lewis Motorsports team into
victory lane for the first time.
Crew chief, Charlie Lewis on Dover:
"Despite our not so strong showing at Dover in the past, we have high
expectations for this weekend," said Lewis. "We have always seemed to
struggle as far as nailing the set-up at this track. This is a handling and
horsepower race track. Finding a set-up that the driver is comfortable with
and still able to post fast lap times is the challenge. You need motor to
get you off the corners, especially turn two where you're almost driving
down into a hole and back up to the straightaway. We've got a great car
prepared for this weekend and received some good advice from Bootie Barker
(Winston Cup crew chief and long-time friend of Lewis, Jr.), so in all I
feel good about our chances to get our first top-10 at Dover this weekend."
Equipment:
CAP Racing will compete with chassis No. 12 this weekend at Dover
International Speedway. This is the same chassis that Lewis, Jr. drove in
earlier events this season at Las Vegas (27th) and California (12th).
Special Appearances:
Lewis, Jr. will sign autographs for fans and participate in a Q & A session
at the Dover Motorsports Club event on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at 9:30 am.
