1-800-PIT-SHOP.COM 300 - Todd Bodine Notes

BODINE AND HERZOG JACKSON MOTORSPORTS GO WEST

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 23, 2003) – Todd Bodine and Herzog Jackson Motorsports will travel to Fontana, California this weekend for the running of the CaliforniaSpeedway.com 300 at California Speedway.

Because Bodine spends every weekend pursuing both his Winston Cup and Busch Series efforts, this Easter weekend was especially meaningful, being the last weekend off he will have for the rest of the NASCAR season. Bodine switched roles to spectator, traveling to Raleigh, N.C. to cheer on wife Lynn who participated in a horse show with her “highly decorated” horse, Popsicle. “This weekend my daughter Ashlyn and I supported Mom,” said Bodine. After all the support that she has given me each weekend, it was the least that I could do.”

With eight races under his belt in the NASCAR Busch Series this year, Bodine heads to California with five top-10 finishes, three top-fives, and a victory at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway. He currently sits atop the NASCAR Busch Series driver’s points standings, 78 points ahead of second place. Even with all of this success, Bodine and the No. 92 organization are still searching for sponsorship.

“The sponsorship ordeal has not lowered the team’s morale a bit,” stated Bodine. “Every weekend Tony [Liberati] and the guys bring 100% effort to the track. We are just going to see what happens with the sponsors and in the meantime try to contend for a Busch Series championship.”

After a weekend off, the Herzog Jackson Motorsports team is anxious to make their way out West. Bodine has run at the two-mile track six times previously, taking home the victory in October of 1997 at the track’s inaugural Busch Series race. Pairing for the first time with Herzog Jackson Motorsports in last year’s race, Bodine finished 22nd after being the victim of an aggressive bump from behind which sent him into a spin. Bodine managed to save the car from making contact with the wall, and finished the race on the lead lap.

“Consistency is the key at California,” stated Bodine. “I feel like I’ve always run well there, but haven’t had the best finishes. I know we can put the Herzog Jackson Chevy into victory lane, it’s just a matter of being patient and running a clean race.”

Crew chief Tony “Rambo” Liberati and the Herzog Jackson Motorsports racing team will bring one of their veteran cars to California Speedway. The Chevrolet Monte Carlo was last utilized at Texas Motor Speedway in March of 2003, placing fourth in the O’Reilly 300.

Live television coverage of the CaliforniaSpeedway.com 300 will begin at 4:00 pm EDT on FOX. MRN Radio will also broadcast the event live, beginning at 4:00 pm EDT.
