1-800-PIT-SHOP.COM 300 - Scott Wimmer Notes
Scott Wimmer Event Preview
Wimmer on California: Scott Wimmer, driver of the No. 23 Stacker 2/Stamina RX Chevrolet, makes his third start at California Speedway.
"California is one of the nicest tracks we go to," said Wimmer. "It has a lot of racing room and it is really wide, a lot like Michigan. The track is a little older now, so the grooves have worked into the track real well. Getting your car to handle through the corners fast is key there. The corners are big and sweeping, so you spend a lot of time in the corner, so it really is a place where you can get an edge over everyone."
"We've seen from races in the past where you can search around for a line to run," said Wimmer. "It is really neat because the top groove might be fast on one end and the bottom might be better on the other. Racing at a two-mile track demands having great horsepower, handling and aerodynamics. If you are lacking in one area, you won't win."
West Coast Racing: Wimmer notes the differences on visiting on the west coast versus the east coast.
"The lifestyle seems like it is just a different speed on the west coast," said Wimmer. "The east coast seems a little more relaxed where the west coast is a busy, hustle-bustle area. The traffic in Los Angeles just amazes me. Anywhere you go where you have stop lights instructing you on getting on and off the interstate is certainly unique."
On His Racing Luck: In the past four events, Wimmer has been involved in four racing accidents, three of which resulted in a DNF.
"I'm really looking forward to racing at California to change our streak of bad luck," said Wimmer. "I think having a weekend off has helped our team as a whole. We were able to have time to fix our race cars and also have time off to relax. The Easter bunny came and gave me chocolate, so I think will change our luck."
Equipment: The Stacker 2/Stamina RX Racing team is taking the same car to California that competed earlier this year at Darlington.
