Tropicana Twister 300 - Scott Wimmer Notes
Scott Wimmer Event Preview
Wimmer on Chicago: Scott Wimmer, driver of the No. 23 Stacker 2 Chevrolet, seeks to shake the unlucky number 13 off his back this weekend at Chicagoland Speedway. The past two times Wimmer has competed at the Chicago, he has finished in the 13th position.
"Chicago is one of those newer tracks where the preferred lane is still around the bottom and the track hasn't widened out yet," said Wimmer. "Getting you car to handle on the bottom is the fastest way around the track. Like all the other mile and a half tracks, motor and aerodynamics play a huge role."
"Since the preferred groove is around the bottom, it is really hard to pass at Chicago and you also tend to get tight when running around other people," said Wimmer. "With no second groove you'll need a great handling car so you can find a way to pass. Pit stops and pit strategy will play a key as well in gaining positions. Last year, the race came down to fuel mileage, so that could be a key factor again. Fortunately, we get real good fuel mileage at Bill Davis Racing so we should be in a good position if it comes down to that again."
Chicago Test: Wimmer and his Stacker 2 Racing team tested at Chicagoland Speedway on June 24th & 25th.
"Our test at Chicago went really well," said crew chief, Chris Rice. "We made lots of race runs over the two day test. It was really hot there then, around 95 degrees, but it looks like the temperatures will be a bit cooler this weekend, which should help us out a lot by giving us more grip. Wimmer said it was one of his best tests he's ever had in a Busch car, so I feel we'll be really good right off the truck this weekend."
Equipment: The Stacker 2 Racing team is taking the same car that competed earlier this year at Dover to Chicago this weekend.
Appearance: Wimmer will make an appearance at the Sports Design / Stacker 2 souvenir rig on Saturday, July 12th prior to the race at Chicagoland Speedway. Please check with the trailer to confirm appearance time.
Busy Week: There was no rest for Wimmer this week, as he was jetting all over the country. On Monday and Tuesday, Wimmer was testing with the BDR engineering staff in Lakeland, Florida. Wednesday found him in Memphis, Tennessee for an all day press conference for Memphis Motorsports Park, returning home late that evening, only turn around and fly out first thing Thursday morning to travel to Chicago.
