Channellock 250 - Rookie Post-Race Quotes
REGAN SMITH, NO. 22 DANNY BOST MOTORSPORTS CHEVROLET (FINISHED 38TH):
"We just got rooted out of the way there. I don't really know by who or what
happened but I couldn't quite catch it when it got sideways and it shot back
into the wall. It's one of those deals. It's Bristol: welcome Raybestos®
Rookie. We'll be back next week and see if we can't get a little better run.
There's nowhere you can go, nothing you can do. The first deal was about
lap 30 or so and I don't know who got crossed up in front of me but they
checked up and I had it pretty much cleared and then I had a little help from
behind, too. It's nobody's fault; it's my fault as much as anybody's maybe
because, I don't know, you can't blame it on anyone. We had a great car and
we are encouraged by that but we're really, really let down by the fact that
we are out so early and didn't get as many laps of experience as I'd like."
CHAD BLOUNT, NO. 19 APP PRE-PAID GAS CARDS DODGE (FINISHED 37TH):
"I don't know who it was. There were two cars racing in front of us. They
got together and started sliding. I went high to miss them and they just
slid up the racetrack and we just had no place to go. I just kind of ended
our day. We had a good racecar. It's just a shame that we got together in
that first deal. That was a racing deal, I guess. I should have gave a
little bit and then the last deal there, just no place to go. These guys
worked their butts off this week. The driver didn't have a very good
weekend. I need to start changing my luck. I need to do something
different. I need to sleep on the other side of the bed or try something.
It's just a shame. The car was running pretty good today. We had a good car
all weekend. It's been a disaster weekend. We'll keep our heads held high
and go on to next weekend in Texas and see what we can come up with."
CHASE MONTGOMERY IN THE NO. 27 BREWCO MOTORSPORTS PONTIAC WAS THE RAYBESTOS®
ROOKIE OF THE RACE AT BRISTOL. MONTGOMERY FINISHED 22ND AND TOOK TOP ROOKIE
HONORS FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS SEASON. HE JOINS CHAD BLOUNT AND COY GIBBS AS
THE ONLY DRIVERS TO TAKE RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE OF THE RACE HONORS IN THE BUSCH
SERIES THIS SEASON. MONTGOMERY WAS THE ONLY RAYBESTOS® ROOKIE TO BE RUNNING
AT THE FINISH OF THE CHANNELLOCK 250.
CHASE MONTGOMERY, NO. 27 BREWCO MOTORSPORTS PONTIAC:
"You are always going to have people that are a little mad at you at the end
of the race and we do. That's what this place is. The first time here we
got all four fenders still on there but they are not exactly straight. We
should have came and tested here but we'll be all right."
UNLIKE SOME OF THE OTHER RAYBESTOS® ROOKIES, YOU DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM IN
PRACTICE OR QUALIFYING AND YOU HAD A CLEAN RACE TODAY.
"You are going to beat and bang at this place. The car is all beat up but we
just tried to keep our eyes open. The biggest thing about this place is
staying out of trouble. We didn't have too fast of a car. We weren't junk
but we weren't as fast as we wanted to be."
DOES THIS RUN TODAY GIVE YOU MOMENTUM FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON?
"It's not the momentum that we wanted. I was expecting to run better. These
guys have been here before. I set high expectations for myself. I come in
here to win every race but
the car is still in one piece and we did finish all the laps that we possibly
could. I can't complain too much."
DID YOU HAVE ANY CLOSE CALLS?
"There were a few. I won't name any names."
