Kroger 200 - Scott Wimmer Notes
Scott Wimmer Event Preview - Double Duty
Scott Wimmer on Indianapolis Motor Speedway: Scott Wimmer, driver of the No. 27 Siemens Dodge in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, attempts to make his first Winston Cup start of the 2002 season. Wimmer attempted to qualify for last month's NWC event at Chicagoland, but did not make it into the show. Wimmer has one Winston Cup start under his belt, when he competed in the season finale event at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2000.
"I had never seen the track prior to our test at Indy earlier this month, so all the veterans do have a leg up on me as far as laps around the track go," said Wimmer. "The plus side of that is being with a multi-car organization like Bill Davis Racing, I'll have my teammates to rely on for information. Daytona is the only other track where all the teams in the organization test, so with the feedback from all three teams, I feel really good about our qualifying effort. Ward Burton and Tommy Baldwin have two sixth place finishes at Indy, so with their notebook and our test there, the Siemens team should have a good race setup right out of the box."
Scott Wimmer on Indianapolis Raceway Park: Wimmer, driver of the No. 23 Siemens Pontiac, makes his second start at Indianapolis Raceway Park.
"I'm really proud of our Busch team," said Wimmer. "We brought home another great finish last week at Pikes Peak where we finished sixth and moved back into the fifth-place points position. Bill Davis is really committed to us and we're going to keep racing and gunning for that championship. The season is far from over and I'm really ready to keep riding this momentum we've been building this summer. I feel our first win is right around the corner. We're putting this car up front each week and that's where you've got to be to capitalize on the wins.
"Racing at IRP is like getting back to our roots of short track racing on Saturday nights. Track position is the most important key to victory lane there, so qualifying up front is critical and staying out of everyone else's wrecks. If we can do that, then we've got a great shot at the win. We've done really well lately on our short track program, so hopefully we can put our Siemens Pontiac in victory lane this weekend."
NWC Equipment: The Siemens Racing NWC Team is taking the one of Ward Burton's cars to Indianapolis that Ward competed earlier this year at Michigan.
NBS Equipment: The Siemens Racing NBS team is taking the same car to IRP that competed earlier this year at Richmond and Nazareth.
