Notes & Quotes
The Mears Family And Indianapolis... For 15 consecutive years (1978-92) at least one member of the Mears family competed in the Indianapolis 500 and on four occasions the acclaimed race was one by Casey's uncle Rick. Brothers Rick and Roger Mears both competed in the 500-miler in 1982 and '83. In 2001, Casey attempted to qualify for the Indy 500.
No. 66 On A Roll At Indianapolis Raceway Park... In the last three starts at IRP, the No. 66 has finished no worse than eighth, posting three top-10 finishes including one top-five. The Phillips 66 team finished eighth at IRP in 2001
Casey Mears' Thoughts On Racing In Indianapolis... "Indianapolis is a great place and my family has a lot of history there, particularly at the speedway. I've never raced at IRP before, but I did manage to make a few laps around the track during a media event."
Casey Mears' Thoughts On Racing In the Indy 500... "Just because I'm competing in the Busch Series right now doesn't mean I've given up on my dream of competing in the Indy 500. Who knows, in a perfect world I'd like to run the Indy 500, Brickyard 400 and Busch race at IRP in the same season."
Crew Chief Donnie Richeson's Thoughts On Indianapolis Raceway Park... "Drivers will run the outside lane to get momentum in and out of the corners and will leave the bottom groove open because there isn't very much grip on the inside lane.
"Having a good qualifying run at IRP always make things a little bit easier once it comes time to race because track position is very important. It's tough to pass at IRP and you will see pit strategy come into play with many teams making two tire stops."
