Phillips 66 and the University of Kansas Team Up to Go Racing

CHARLOTTE, N.C.--- Ever wonder how a Jayhawk holds up at 180 mph? In two weeks, NASCAR Busch Series driver Casey Mears will know first hand.

Phillips 66 and The University of Kansas have teamed up to produce a special paint scheme for the No. 66 Dodge that will run in the NASCAR Busch Series event at Kansas Speedway on September 28. Mears will also be on campus to unveil the car at the University of Kansas on September 9.

Replacing the familiar black and red colors of Phillips 66 will be the university's colors of crimson and blue. Riding along and occupying center stage on the hood and rear quarter panels of the No. 66 Dodge will be the familiar KU mascot, the "Jayhawk".

"I think the car turned out great," said Mears. "The special paint scheme is really going to turn some heads and provide some added excitement when we race at Kansas Speedway.

"It's neat to have the additional support of the university behind us. With the help and support of everyone at the University of Kansas, we're going to give the students and faculty something to cheer about."

The University of Kansas is part of the Big 12 conference, which receives conference sponsorship support from the Phillips 66 brand. Mears was first introduced to Big 12 athletics and the KU Jayhawks when he attended the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Tournament at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Mo. Earlier this year.

"I had a lot of fun and I met a lot of great people while I was at the Big 12 tournament," said Mears. "Now all we need is to have all of the Jayhawk fans who attended the tournament to come to Kansas Speedway and cheer us on."
