HRT Signs Associate Sponsor for Miami
Children International to ride on rear quarter panels
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Nov. 11, 2002) – The Hispanic Racing Team (HRT Motorsports) has signed an associate sponsor of the No. 09 CICLON Energy Drink car for this weekend’s race at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Children International, which provides aid to impoverished children throughout the world, will be on the rear quarter panels of the car. The No. 09 Chevrolet will be driven by Carlos Contreras in his NASCAR Busch Grand National series debut.
“HRT has teamed up with Children International to help poor children in Spanish-speaking countries around the world,” said team co-owner Mike Vazquez. “Although we may never win the race against poverty, we can sure help these children get a better start in life. By sponsoring a child, like we at HRT have done, we can give these children real help and real hope.”
Vazquez, co-owner Rudy Rodriguez and Contreras have all signed on to sponsor kids through the Children International program. The three children are from Ecuador and the Dominican Republic, and range in age from two to six.
Children International helps more than 230,000 children throughout 18 field projects in 10 countries around the world. Its sponsorship programs bring health, education and other opportunities to poor children and help them become contributing members to society.
“We are excited to ‘go racin’ with HRT and Carlos,” said David Houchen, senior vice president at Children International. “This is a very unique way to spread the word about how we can help poor children in Spanish-speaking countries and other countries around the world. NASCAR fans are extremely loyal, and we believe they will take this cause to heart and consider sponsoring a needy child, just as Mike, Rudy and Carlos have already done. We’re hoping to make this a winning team both on and off the track.”
The race at Homestead-Miami speedway will close out the 2003 NASCAR Busch Series season. It will be the third event this year for HRT, the first and only Hispanic-owned, -sponsored and -driven team in NASCAR.
