Dallenbach, Baldwin Encourage Young Readers Team Carries Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories at Phoenix
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Driver Wally Dallenbach and car owner Tommy Baldwin will carry a unique associate sponsor in next week’s NASCAR Busch Grand National stock car race at the one-mile Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway.
Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories will appear as an associate sponsor on the #6 car, in which Dallenbach finished seventh in his last outing, a 300-miler at the 1.5-mile Lowe’s Motor Speedway near Charlotte, N.C. Spoonfuls of Stories will also appear as an associate in next Sunday’s NASCAR Winston Cup race, the #43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge and driver John Andretti carrying the symbol.
Just as Cheerios helps fuel kids for the day, reading gives them the power to succeed in life. With that in mind, Cheerios is making a significant commitment to childhood literacy through the Spoonfuls of Stories program. Baldwin and Dallenbach are partnering in this effort for one race by encouraging children to read more, and by helping to get more books into children’s hands.
For each lap Dallenbach completes in Saturday’s race and Andretti completes in Sunday’s race, Cheerios Spoonfuls of Stories, in conjunction with Simon & Schuster, will donate 43 books to First Book-Phoenix/Scottsdale. The total number of books that could be donated is 22,016. First Book, a national nonprofit which provides new books to disadvantaged children, will distribute the donated books to children in need in the Greater Phoenix area. Families can help get even more books to children in their own communities using First Book donation forms found on Cheerios boxes.
