Viers, Hylton Named Crew Chiefs for RCR Busch Teams for 2002
WELCOME, N.C. (Dec. 12, 2001) -- Ricky Viers and Butch Hylton have been
named crew chiefs for Richard Childress Racing's (RCR) No.2 ACDelco and No.
21 Rockwell Automation/Brant Motorsports teams, respectively, for the 2002
NASCAR Busch Series season.
"Ricky and Butch are both racers and I see them continuing the success that
Todd (Berrier) and Gil (Martin) had as crew chiefs with the ACDelco and
Rockwell Automation teams in 2001," said Richard Childress, president and
CEO of Richard Childress Racing Enterprises, Inc. "We started our Busch
Series program to help feed the Winston Cup programs and that's exactly
what
we've been able to do so far, with drivers, crew chiefs and crew members.
We're rebuilding the Busch programs this year but, with the people we've put
in place, still have high expectations going into the 2002 season."
Viers, who has worked in the top levels of NASCAR racing since 1989, was a
mechanic and tire changer for RCR during the 1995-96 seasons. He has also
worked for Bill Davis Racing, Leo Jackson Racing and Hendrick Motorsports.
He was the crew chief for the No. 98 NASCAR Busch Series team the past
three
seasons. Viers is a native of Darlington, Md., who now resides in Trinity,
N.C.
"Our first goal is to win Rookie of the Year with Johnny Sauter, and win as
many races as we can," said Viers. "If we can do that, I feel like we will
also have an opportunity to win a championship. RCR has developed a great
race team and I feel we have a lot of knowledgeable and experienced people
to continue the success of the No. 2 ACDelco team."
Hylton also has a great deal of NASCAR experience. He has worked over the
years for Roush Racing, Diamond Ridge Motorsports and A.G. Dillard. The
Rockford, Ill., native was with Joe Gibbs Racing the past four seasons,
serving as the crew chief for its No. 18 NASCAR Busch Series team the past
three seasons. He now resides in Concord, N.C.
"Our main objective is to win," said Hylton. "Since the driver assignment
will be split between Jeff Green and Jay Sauter, we are focusing on winning
the Owner's Championship. I feel having two drivers will give our No. 21
Rockwell Automation team different perspectives on how to be successful
week
in and week out. I think we can win every week with the drivers we have."
