GNC Live Well 200 - Raybestos Rookie Notes

NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE RAYBESTOS ROOKIE CONTENDERS - BUSCH SERIES

· Raybestos Rookie Contender Greg Biffle scored his third win of the 2001 Busch Series season in the GNC Live Well 250 at The Milwaukee Mile. He scored the victory by 13.302 seconds, the largest margin of victory ever at Milwaukee. Biffle led the race twice for 19 laps.

· Biffle stretched his lead in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year points to 94 (260-166) over Scott Wimmer. He has been the highest finishing rookie in 13 of the 17 Busch Series races this season.

· Biffle is now second in Busch Series points, trailing leader Kevin Harvick by 112 entering Sunday's GNC Live Well 200 at Watkins Glen International. He leads third place Jason Keller by 97 points.

· Biffle's win ties him for most victories by a Raybestos Rookie in the Busch Series. Steve Park (1997) and Kevin Harvick (2000) all won three races in their first season in the Busch Series.

· Raybestos Rookie Contender Jamie McMurray qualified sixth at Milwaukee, his best qualifying effort of the season. Prior to his run at Milwaukee, McMurray's best run in time trials was ninth at both Darlington and Nazareth..

· Four of the five Raybestos Rookies that started the race at Milwaukee were running at the finish. The only driver who was sidelined early was Scott Wimmer who completed 157 laps before rear end problems ended his day.

· Biffle's three wins are more than any other driver in the Busch Series this season.

· Biffle has taken home more in earnings this season ($621,467) entering Sunday's event at Watkins Glen than any other Raybestos Rookie. In fact, Biffle's total places him second overall in the Busch Series in the money won category behind defending series champion Jeff Green ($665,455).

· 2000 Raybestos Rookie Champion Kevin Harvick was the highest finishing rookie in last year's race at Watkins Glen. Harvick finished third behind road racing experts Ron Fellows and Butch Leitzinger. Two other rookies finished in the top-10: Jay Sauter (eighth) and P.J. Jones (ninth). Anthony Lazzaro (16th) and Jason Schuler (22nd) also completed all 82 laps. A total of nine Raybestos Rookies started last year's race with seven drivers running at the finish of the event. Only Jimmie Johnson (accident) and Ron Hornaday (engine) did not see the checkered flag. P.J. Jones was the highest qualifying rookie, grabbing the fourth starting position in time trials.

· Biffle has more top-five finishes (seven) and top-10s (12) than any other Raybestos Rookie Contender. His 12 top-10s place him third overall in the Busch Series for most top-10s behind Harvick (14) and Jeff Green (13).

· Biffle has led 831.38 miles (577 laps) in 11 races this season. He has led a total of 27 times entering Sunday's race at Watkins Glen. Biffle ranks second behind Kevin Harvick, who has led 919.44 miles. Other rookies to have led this season are Wimmer (78.92 miles), Foyt (4.50 miles), and McMurray (1.50 miles).

· Biffle has just 76.85 unfinished miles entering this weekend's race at Watkins Glen. Only Jason Keller (52.13) and Jeff Purvis (74.39) have fewer unfinished miles in 17 starts in the Busch Series this season.

· Biffle remains the only Raybestos Rookie Contender in the Busch Series to win a pole position in 2001. He nabbed the top starting spot for the ALLTEL 200 at Rockingham in February.

· David Donohue finished 20th in the CarQuest 300 at Charlotte, his best finish of the 2001 Busch Series season. His previous best finish was at Nazareth where he placed 27th.

· Biffle led the most laps in the CarQuest 300 at Charlotte, the third time this season he has accomplished the feat. He led the race three times for 154 laps, 124 more than any other driver. Biffle also led the most laps in Busch Series races at California and Nashville.

· Wimmer's best finish this season is a third place effort at Nashville. He and Biffle are the only Raybestos Rookie Contenders to score top-five finishes in the Busch Series this season. Wimmer also led once for two laps at Nashville, the first time he had led a Busch Series race since the season opening event at Daytona in February.

· Jamie McMurray had a good weekend at Nazareth. He qualified ninth and finished 10th, his first career top-10 finish in the Busch Series. His qualifying effort equaled his best of the season, which came at Darlington in March. McMurray's previous best finish was 11th in the NAPA 300 at Daytona International Speedway.

· McMurray led once for one lap at Texas, the first lap he has led in the Busch Series in 2001. McMurray is the fourth Raybestos Rookie Contender to lead at least one lap this season.

· McMurray was the highest qualifying rookie at Darlington, the first time this season he has taken home the honors. He nailed down the ninth starting position during time trials and was the only Raybestos Rookie Contender to qualify in the top-10.

· Marty Houston was the highest qualifying rookie at Texas. He nabbed the 12th starting position in time trials and backed up his run with a respectable performance in the race. Houston was credited with 25th in the final finishing order.

· Houston scored his best finish of the season in the Cheez-It 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. He stayed out of trouble and finished 14th at the checkered flag. Even more impressive was the fact Houston started 39th in the race.

· Wimmer was the highest qualifying Raybestos Rookie at Atlanta, the second time this season he has nabbed the honor. Wimmer started fourth in the Aaron's 312, edging Biffle who clocked in with the fifth quickest time. He was also the highest qualifying rookie in the NAPA 300 at Daytona.

· Raybestos Rookie Contenders Wimmer and Foyt each led the season opening NAPA 300 at Daytona. Wimmer led once for 24 laps while Foyt held the top spot once for one lap.
