QUOTES

Driver Robby Gordon on Watkins Glen…

“I’m very excited about racing in the Rockwell Automation car this weekend at Watkins Glen. I’ve been there twice with the Winston Cup Series and had my best finishes there until the race at Sears Point. I enjoy the road courses and feel I have a pretty good mental understanding of how to attack them.

“I couldn’t have picked a better organization or race team to start my Busch Series career with than Richard Childress Racing and the No. 21 team. When Richard and I talked at Indy about driving the car, we both knew I was capable of doing it. This weekend’s race will be a great opportunity for me to showcase my abilities as a driver. I’m going to treat this like my first Trans Am race where I sat on the pole and won the race my first time out.”

Crew chief Gil Martin on Watkins Glen…

“It’ll be nice to have a road course specialist like Robby (Gordon) in the car this weekend. We all saw how great a job he did at Sears Point a few weeks ago in the Cup car. And we hope he can keep that momentum going into the 21 car. All the guys on the team are ready to go and we’re anxious to see if Robby can help us get our first win.”

NOTES

Gordon In…Richard Childress Racing Enterprises, Inc. announced last week that road course specialist Robby Gordon will drive the No. 21 Chevy in this weekend’s NASCAR Busch Series event at Watkins Glen International. Earlier this year, Gordon teamed up with Childress and A.J. Foyt to compete in IRL’s Indianapolis 500. Gordon qualified on the front row (3rd) and led the first 22 laps before finishing 21st.

At The Glen…Robby has visited Watkins Glen International two times with the Winston Cup Series. In 1997, he started 10th and finished 4th in his first effort at the 2.45-mile road course. Last year, he made the greatest improvement from a starting position going from 42nd to finish 4th by picking up 38 spots.

Busch Rookie…This weekend’s GNC Live Well 200 at The Glen will be the fist time that the 32-year old Gordon has competed in a NASCAR Busch Series event.

Fresh Start in Cup…Gordon took advantage of a fresh start in the Winston Cup Series two weeks ago when he competed at Sears Point Raceway as a substitute driver for the No. 7 Ultra Motorsports Team. Starting from the 7th position, he led 16 laps and ran up front all day en route to a career best finish of 2nd.

Chassis No. 007…For Watkins Glen, Team Rock will take car No. 007, the same one NASCAR Truck Series rookie Travis Kvapil got caught up in an accident with in his first Busch Series start at Kentucky Speedway. Major repair work was done to get it ready for this weekend’s race, including a new front clip, hood, and roof.
