GNC Live Well 200 - Jimmie Johnson Notes

Johnson Sets Out to Make a New Name

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (July 3, 2001) - Jimmie Johnson is setting out to give the No. 92 Herzog Motorsports team a new name this weekend in Watkins Glen, N.Y. Johnson and the team are most remembered for their car that ran head-on into the styrofoam wall at “The Glen” in the 2000 NASCAR Busch Series race. This year, the Excedrin Racing team is ready to return to the only road course on the NASCAR Busch Series schedule, and create a new name for themselves by claiming their first victory.

“I think everyone remembers me from our wreck at ‘The Glen’ last year,” said Johnson. “I always have fans coming up, throwing their arms in the air and telling me how great it was to see me jump out of the car safely. It was the most spectacular accident I’ve ever been in. We bounced through the grass, over the track and then I cleared about two-thirds of the sand pit. The car just touched in the sand pit and jumped again, I was probably traveling over 100 miles per hour when I hit the styrofoam wall. This year, the Excedrin Racing team wants to give everyone something else to remember us by.”

Finishing only 45 of the 82-lap event in the 2000 Busch Series race, Johnson and the Excedrin Racing team headed north in June to gain knowledge about the well-known road course. During two days of testing, the Excedrin Racing team proved that they will have the car to beat this weekend.

“When we tested in June, we were trying to get a better feel for the track,” stated Johnson. “I didn’t get much time on the track last year and wanted to feel more comfortable on the road course. The Excedrin Racing team is very confident with the setup that we will be using this weekend.”

Johnson, who currently sits in the ninth position in the NASCAR Busch Series driver points, will be spending an extra day in New York, as he visits the only penicillin manufacturing facility in the country on Monday, July 9. The Syracuse-based Bristol-Myers Squibb office is also home for the research and development of prescription drugs for AIDS, cancer, diabetes and heart conditions. Johnson will be signing autographs for all BMS employees from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

As the NASCAR Busch Series steps into the second half of the season, the GNC Live Well 200 will air live this Sunday, July 8, on the TNT Television Network and MRN Radio Network starting at 12:30 p.m. EST.

Excedrin is a family of non-prescription pain relievers for safe and effective pain relief for a range of headache types.
