Subway 300 - Raybestos Rookie Notes

NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE RAYBESTOS ROOKIE CONTENDERS - BUSCH SERIES

· Greg Biffle scored his first career Busch Series victory in the Pepsi 300 at Nashville Superspeedway. Biffle held off Jason Keller by .602 seconds to claim his first career victory in the series and the first NASCAR victory this season for Roush Racing. He is the only Raybestos Rookie in any major NASCAR touring series to win a race this season. Biffle joins Hermie Sadler, Johnny Benson, Steve Park and Kevin Harvick as Busch Series rookies who have went to victory lane in their freshman seasons.

· Biffle holds a comfortable lead in the Raybestos Rookie of the Year Point Standings. He enjoys a 38-point advantage over Scott Wimmer (119-81) as the series heads to Talladega for Saturday's 300-mile event.

· Wimmer collected a well-deserved third place finish at Nashville. He and Biffle are the only Raybestos Rookie Contenders to score top-five finishes this season in the Busch Series. Wimmer also led once for two laps at Nashville, the first time he had led since the season opening event at Daytona in February.

· Three Raybestos Rookies qualified in the top-10 at Nashville: Biffle (fourth), Wimmer (fifth) and Jamie McMurray (seventh). Larry Foyt started 14th, his best qualifying run of the 2001 Busch Series season.

· The Raybestos Rookie class of 2000 had a good performance at Talladega last April. Four drivers finished on the lead lap, led by Mike Borkowski who placed 10th. Michael Ritch (13th), Kevin Harvick (16th) and Ron Hornaday (20th) completed all 113 laps. Harvick and Hornaday also led the class during time trials for the race. Hornaday took the sixth starting position while Harvick was eighth.

· Biffle has more top-five finishes (four) and top-10s (five) than any other Raybestos Rookie Contender. He has been the highest finishing rookie in six of the eight Busch Series races entering Talladega.

· Biffle and Sauter are also the only rookies to capture Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors in 2001.

· Kevin Harvick, Raybestos Rookie point leader in the Winston Cup Series, leads the Busch Series points by 91 over second place Jason Keller. Biffle is third in Busch Series points, one point behind Keller and 92 behind Harvick.

· Biffle remains the only Raybestos Rookie Contender in the Busch Series to win a pole position in 2001. He nabbed the top starting spot for the ALLTEL 200 at Rockingham in February. Biffle is one of only four drivers to win a pole this season in the Busch Series: Ryan Newman (2), Matt Kenseth (2), and Kevin Harvick (1) are the others.

· Biffle has led the most races in 2001. He has led laps in five races entering this weekend's event at Talladega.

· Jamie McMurray led once for one lap at Texas, the first lap he has led in the Busch Series in 2001. McMurray is the fourth Raybestos Rookie Contender to lead at least one lap this season.

· Biffle has led at least one lap in five of the first eight races of the 2001 NASCAR Busch Series season. Entering Saturday's race at Talladega, Biffle has led 12 times in five races for a total of 322.54 miles (213 laps), most of any Raybestos Rookie Contender. He ranks second overall in miles led in the Busch Series, trailing only Todd Bodine. Other rookies to have led this season are Wimmer (63.00 miles), Foyt (2.50 miles), and McMurray (1.50 miles).

· Biffle is the only Raybestos Rookie Contender to be running at the finish in all eight Busch Series races this season.

· McMurray was the highest qualifying rookie at Darlington, the first time this season he has taken home the honors. He nailed down the ninth starting position during time trials and was the only Raybestos Rookie Contender to qualify in the top-10.

· Marty Houston was the highest qualifying rookie at Texas. He nabbed the 12th starting position in time trials and backed up his run with a respectable performance in the race. Houston was credited with 25th in the final finishing order.

· Houston scored his best finish of the season in the Cheez-It 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. He stayed out of trouble and finished 14th at the checkered flag. Even more impressive was the fact Houston started 39th in the race.

· Wimmer was the highest qualifying Raybestos Rookie at Atlanta, the second time this season he has nabbed the honor. Wimmer started fourth in the Aaron's 312, edging Biffle who clocked in with the fifth quickest time. He was also the highest qualifying rookie in the NAPA 300 at Daytona.

· Raybestos Rookie Contenders Wimmer and Foyt each led the season opening NAPA 300 at Daytona. Wimmer led once for 24 laps while Foyt held the top spot once for one lap. Wimmer was also the highest qualifying rookie at Daytona, earning the fifth position during time trials.
