Subway 300 - Jimmie Johnson Notes Johnson and Excedrin Racing Team Refocus CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 18, 2001) – Jimmie Johnson and the No. 92 Excedrin Racing team are refocusing this weekend as they head to the Talladega Superspeedway in Talladega, Ala. for the Subway 300 on Saturday. The 2.66-mile oval is the fastest track on the NASCAR Busch Series circuit and Johnson hopes he will be on the fast track to victory lane. Johnson and the Excedrin Racing team are heading to Talladega with plans of gaining valuable points after a disappointing finish in Nashville, due to an incident in the closing laps of the race. “We're looking forward to going to Talladega,” stated Johnson. “The Excedrin Racing team is focused on bringing home another top-five finish for Herzog Motorsports. Our goal is to move back up to the top-five in points after Talladega. We've got our sights set on the points championship.” Johnson is currently sixth in the NASCAR Busch Series points standings, just 13 points out of fifth place. This weekend, the Excedrin Racing team plans to run the same Chevrolet Monte Carlo they ran at Daytona International Speedway earlier in the season. Johnson finished fifth in the opening event of the 2001 NASCAR Busch Series season. “The Excedrin Racing team had an excellent car in Daytona,” said Johnson. “We haven't had to make many changes to the No. 92 Chevrolet Monte Carlo because we were so happy with the way it ran. Daytona and Talladega are similar, so we are counting on having a good car on Saturday.” Johnson has spent some time testing at Talladega and reflects on his thoughts of the track. “Talladega is like being on a freeway,” explained Johnson. “You run 190 miles per hour, and you don't even realize how fast you are going. It doesn't feel that fast at all. It's a fun track to race on, but a little scary too.” Excedrin is a family of nonprescription pain relievers for safe and effective pain relief for a range of headache types. Excedrin is produced by Bristol-Myers Squibb, a leading diversified worldwide health and personal care company, whose principle businesses are medications, beauty care, nutritionals and medical devices. Herzog Motorsports is a successful, championship-winning race team. Based in St. Joseph, Mo.; Charlotte, N.C.; and Milwaukee, Wis., Herzog Motorsports fields competitive racing programs in the American Speed Association (ASA) and NASCAR Busch Series. The Subway 300 airs live on FOX and MRN Radio Saturday, April 21. The telecast will start at 12:30 p.m. EST.
