Hardee's 250 - Raybestos Rookie Notes NEWS AND NOTES FROM THE RAYBESTOS ROOKIE CONTENDERS - BUSCH SERIES · Greg Biffle was the highest finishing Raybestos Rookie in the Auto Club 300 at California Speedway. He placed sixth and maintained his lead in the Busch Series championship standings by three points over Kevin Harvick. Biffle stretched his lead in the Raybestos Rookie points to 52 (148-96) over second place Scott Wimmer. · The Auto Club 300 at California Speedway marked the second time in 2001 that Biffle has led the most laps in a Busch Series race. He held the top spot for 90 of the race's 150 laps and was one of three rookies to lead at least one lap in the Auto Club 300. Biffle also led the most laps on his way to winning the Pepsi 300 at Nashville Superspeedway. He is the only Raybestos Rookie Contender to lead the most laps in a Busch Series race this season. · Fellow Raybestos Rookies Scott Wimmer and Larry Foyt also led laps at California. Wimmer paced the field once for two laps while Foyt led once for one lap. · Biffle was the highest qualifying rookie at California, earning the third starting position during first round time trials. Christian Elder was the next highest qualifying freshman, earning the 15th starting position. · Biffle has more top-five finishes (four) and top-10s (seven) than any other Raybestos Rookie Contender. Only two other drivers have more top-10 finishes than Biffle: Harvick and Jeff Green, who each have eight. · Biffle has been the highest finishing rookie in eight of the 10 Busch Series races entering Friday night's Hardee's 250 at Richmond International Raceway. · Biffle has led more miles (502.54) and more laps (303) than any other driver in the Busch Series this season. He has led 18 times in six races and has led 154 more miles than Todd Bodine, who ranks second on the miles leaders chart. Other rookies to have led this season are Wimmer (67.00 miles), Foyt (4.50 miles), and McMurray (1.50 miles). · Biffle is the only Raybestos Rookie Contender to be running at the finish in all ten Busch Series races this season. · Biffle scored his first career Busch Series victory in the Pepsi 300 at Nashville Superspeedway, holding off Jason Keller by .602 seconds to claim the victory. He is the only Raybestos Rookie in any major NASCAR touring series to win a race this season. Even more impressive is the fact that Biffle is the only driver to score a win this season for Roush Racing. · Biffle remains the only Raybestos Rookie Contender in the Busch Series to win a pole position in 2001. He nabbed the top starting spot for the ALLTEL 200 at Rockingham in February. Biffle one of six drivers to win a pole this season in the Busch Series: Ryan Newman (2), Matt Kenseth (2), Kevin Harvick (1), Joe Nemechek (1), and Bobby Hamilton Jr. (1) are the others. · Wimmer finished third at Nashville, his best finish of the 2001 season.. He and Biffle are the only Raybestos Rookie Contenders to score top-five finishes in the Busch Series this season. Wimmer also led once for two laps at Nashville, the first time he had led a Busch Series race since the season opening event at Daytona in February. · Jamie McMurray led once for one lap at Texas, the first lap he has led in the Busch Series in 2001. McMurray is the fourth Raybestos Rookie Contender to lead at least one lap this season. · McMurray was the highest qualifying rookie at Darlington, the first time this season he has taken home the honors. He nailed down the ninth starting position during time trials and was the only Raybestos Rookie Contender to qualify in the top-10. · Marty Houston was the highest qualifying rookie at Texas. He nabbed the 12th starting position in time trials and backed up his run with a respectable performance in the race. Houston was credited with 25th in the final finishing order. · Houston scored his best finish of the season in the Cheez-It 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. He stayed out of trouble and finished 14th at the checkered flag. Even more impressive was the fact Houston started 39th in the race. · Wimmer was the highest qualifying Raybestos Rookie at Atlanta, the second time this season he has nabbed the honor. Wimmer started fourth in the Aaron's 312, edging Biffle who clocked in with the fifth quickest time. He was also the highest qualifying rookie in the NAPA 300 at Daytona. · Raybestos Rookie Contenders Wimmer and Foyt each led the season opening NAPA 300 at Daytona. Wimmer led once for 24 laps while Foyt held the top spot once for one lap. Wimmer was also the highest qualifying rookie at Daytona, earning the fifth position during time trials.
