Hardee's 250 - Mike Skinner Notes
MIKE SKINNER No. 21 Rockwell Automation CHEVROLET RICHMOND Quotes and Notes Event: Hardee's 250 Date: May 4, 2001 Track: Richmond International Raceway TV: FX 7:30 PM ET Laps/Miles: 250/187.5 Radio: MRN 7:30 PM ETQUOTES Driver Mike Skinner on Richmond… "I sat on the pole at Richmond two years ago, the same weekend I also ran the Busch race. I think it's really beneficial to run both races. We've had a great season so far in the Rockwell Automation Chevrolet, and I'm doing everything I can to get the track time to help the Lowe's team at the same time. Hopefully we can keep this going. "California last weekend was the first time the Rockwell Automation team has struggled. The car wasn't very good at the beginning, but the guys worked their guts out to adjust it. We had a top-10 car at the end of the race, but it was a little too late. We plan on going into Richmond with a car that's ready to run up front and doesn't require a lot of work." Crew chief Gil Martin on Richmond… "I love racing at Richmond. It's been a great track for me and I've won here four times. It's a pretty stable track, but you can overdrive the car into the corners. The key this weekend will be who figures out the new tire deal the quickest. That's what we'll concentrate on. "The night races here are always exciting. There might be a little bit of an adjustment since we are racing at night, but it will be hard to tell. I've found that it really doesn't matter if you're qualifying during the day or racing at night, the track will pretty much stay the same." NOTES The Streak Ends…The 23rd place finish last weekend at California Speedway marked the first time that the No. 21 Rockwell Automation Racing Team has not finished in the top-10 since RCR Winston Cup driver Mike Skinner took over as the driver. In the four races that Skinner has run, Team Rock has scored one top-five and three top-10 finishes. Four Wins…You could say crew chief Gil Martin knows how to adjust a car to battle Richmond's smooth surface and 14 degree banked corners. He's visited Victory Lane four times here as a BGN Series crew chief, once with Bobby Hamilton (9/9/89) and three times with Kenny Wallace (9/9/94, 3/4/95, and 9/8/96). Isn't It Ironic…In his only Busch race at Richmond International Raceway in September of 1999, Skinner qualified 26th and jumped up eight spots throughout the race to finish 18th. Ironically, he obtained his best start for the Winston Cup race that same weekend when he grabbed the pole at the .75-mile oval and went on to finish 11th. The Hustler…Team Rock will take the same No. 21 Rockwell Automation Chevy that they raced at Las Vegas and Nashville earlier this year. In both races, they've combined to move up an average of 21 spots to finish 18th and sixth, respectively.
