Hardee's 250 - Matt Kenseth Notes
Matt Kenseth / Visine Racing Pre-Race Notes KENSETH AT RICHMOND: In seven career NASCAR Busch Series starts at Richmond International Raceway in Virginia, Matt Kenseth has collected four top-five finishes. His best finish at Richmond in a Busch Series car came last May in the Hardee's 250. Kenseth crossed the finish line second in that race. OWNERS' POINTS BATTLE: Reiser Enterprises holds the ninth spot in the owners' points standings with 1,188 points through 10 NASCAR Busch Series events. Matt Kenseth is currently 18th in the drivers' points standings with 1,027 points in eight races. In two races Clay Rogers has accumulated 161 points for the Visine Racing team. KENSETH HANDS OFF TO ROGERS FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE: After driving in the Hardee's 250 at Richmond Friday night, Kenseth will pass the baton to teammate Clay Rogers for the next two Busch Series events. Rogers is scheduled to drive the No. 17 Visine Chevrolet for Reiser Enterprises in the CVS/pharmacy 200 at New Hampshire International Speedway on May 12. Following New Hampshire, he plans to compete in the Nazareth 200 at Nazareth Speedway in Pennsylvania on May 20. TESTING NEWS: In preparation for his two upcoming Busch Series races, Clay Rogers and the Visine Racing team are scheduled to test "Car Number 10" and "Car Number 15" at Nazareth Speedway next Monday. MATT KENSETH'S Comments on richmond: "We were real successful with qualifying for both races at Richmond last year. And that helped us stay near the front to come home with good finishes. It would be nice to get another top-10 starting spot and have a good pit stall. That would make the night racing more exciting for us." CREW CHIEF RUSS STRUPP'S COMMENTS ON RICHMOND: "We're taking car number 11 to Richmond. It's the same car that finished second there in the spring last year. Richmond is a nice change from the norm. Racing under the lights always makes for some good racing." Last year's HARDEE'S 250 (May 5, 2000): Matt Kenseth battled Jeff Green under the lights as Green forced Kenseth to a second-place finish, his seventh top-five finish in 10 races. Kenseth started fourth and remained there until the first pit stop on lap 68. He took four fresh tires and fuel, along with an air-pressure adjustment for better grip in the corners of the .75-mile track. Kenseth remained in the top five but struggled to pass other cars. The Visine Racing team made track-bar and wedge adjustments during its next service stop on lap 166. Shortly after the restart following a caution flag on lap 225, Kenseth took over second place. He fell short of Green and the checkered flag by roughly one-tenth of a second. It was the fourth time in his first 10 Busch Series races in 2000 that Kenseth finished second. Last Race: Finishing 20th and one-lap down to the leader, Matt Kenseth and the Visine Racing team dealt with pit stop problems early in the 150-lap event at California Speedway. On lap 48, Kenseth pulled out of his pit stall with the gas can caught in the fuel cell opening at the rear end of the Visine car. He wiggled the No. 17 machine back and forth down pit road to free the gas can from the car. After returning to the track, Kenseth was forced to bring the car back down pit road to complete a stop-and-go penalty for the mishap. He was never able to get back on the lead lap, resulting in a 20th-place finish.
