Hardee's 250 - Jay Sauter Notes

Jay Sauter
#43 Quality Farm Stores/Morton Salt
Chevrolet Monte Carlo
Hardee’s 250 / May 4, 2001
Richmond International Raceway
Last Race – California … Jay Sauter qualified 25th and finished 28th completing 147 of the 150 laps. Sauter experienced problems with the alternator that ultimately led to the changing of two batteries during the race. Fuel mileage was also an issue for many teams as the race had only two cautions for eight laps Sauter now stands 15th in overall Busch Series points after ten races. However, Sauter is only 42 points behind Chad Little in 10th position.

Hey, I recognize you … Jay Sauter will be driving the familiar green and yellow Quality Farm Stores Chevrolet this week at Richmond. In California last week, Sauter drove the Morton Salt color Chevrolet for the first of six races this season. Morton Salt is a major associate sponsor on the Quality Farm Stores Chevrolets of Curb-Agajanian Motorsports for 2001.

Jay Sauter on the Hardee’s 250 and the Richmond International Raceway … "I’ve had my ‘ups and downs’ at Richmond. Last spring, I was running in the top ten when I got involved in a multi-car wreck on the backstretch that ended our evening. Last fall, I didn’t run as strong, but I did manage to finish the race in 17th. Actually, the first race I drove here (Richmond) was my best. I finished third in the truck race in ’97 and led some laps in that race as well. I’m looking forward to another battle on the short track this Friday."

Sauter on the 2001 season … "I’ve had a good racecar everywhere we’ve been. The guys on the Quality Farm Stores/Morton Salt team have really worked hard preparing these cars. Gene (Crew Chief Nead) has made great calls in the pits and our pit stops keep getting better and better. We’re still searching for the consistency that it takes to be a contender, but we’ve run well almost every week. We’ll keep building on that till we get that first win!"
