Hardee's 250 - Jimmie Johnson Notes Johnson Rides Into the Night CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 1, 2001) – Jimmie Johnson is riding into the night this weekend at Richmond International Raceway, in Richmond, Va. The Hardee's 250 is the first of six night races scheduled for the 2001 NASCAR Busch Series season. The ¾ -mile Richmond track is known for its exciting racing under the lights. Johnson and the Excedrin( Racing team are driving in the "PM", in hopes of reestablishing their pattern of top finishes. After being involved in two on-track incidents in April at Nashville Superspeedway and Talladega Superspeedway and finishing a solid 16th at the California Speedway last weekend, Johnson feels he has restored his groove. "I like racing at night and I like short tracks. I am hoping with the combination of the two, the Excedrin Racing team will do well this weekend," explains Johnson. "We need a top-five finish to get us back in contention for the NASCAR Busch Series points championship." Johnson currently sits in the eighth spot in the 2001 NASCAR Busch Series points standings, just 137 points out of the top-five. This weekend marks Johnson's third trip to Richmond International Raceway. Johnson finished 12th in the Spring race and 22nd in the Fall race during the 2000 NASCAR Busch Series events, and is sure that the Excedrin Racing team can better both of those finishes this weekend. "The Excedrin Racing team has been at the shop working hard all week to get us ready for Richmond," stated Johnson. "Excedrin is going to make a promotional announcement on Friday afternoon, before the race, so a lot of the Excedrin representatives will be there to cheer us on. It would be great to finish in the top-five while they are all at the track with us." Excedrin, Johnson and Herzog Motorsports have scheduled a press conference for Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. EST to make a promotional announcement. The announcement will be made in the media center of Richmond International Raceway. Johnson will also be unveiling a new paint scheme to be run at designated tracks on the 2001 NASCAR Busch Series schedule.
