NAPA Auto Care 250 - Mike McLaughlin Notes
MIKE McLAUGHLIN Mike McLaughlin enters the NAPA 250 this weekend at scenic Pikes Peak International Raceway looking to begin a run of solid races. After struggling with bad racing luck over the last month, the driver of the # 18 MBNA Pontiac is hoping for a top-five finish on Saturday. In three starts at the track, McLaughlin lists one top-ten start and one top-ten finish. In the first ever race at Pikes Peak, McLaughlin was running third when he cut a tire late in the race. MIKE McLAUGHLIN PIKES PEAK CAREER STATISTICS Date Start Finish Laps Reason 06/14/98 16 20 248/250 Running 07/24/99 8 15 250/250 Running 07/22/99 18 8 250/250 RunningQUOTES ON PIKES PEAK "I have always run well at Pikes Peak, even though the results may not say that. In 1998, we had a chance to win late in the race and people started beating and banging and we cut a tire. It's a fun racetrack and we always look forward to going out west to race there." "Plain and simple, we have to start running better, we haven't been on top of our game all summer long. I know we can go to Pikes Peak and have a good run and start what I hope is a long streak of top-ten finishes. A strong finish on Saturday will give us the momentum we need to finish out the rest of the season on." PIT NOTES SPONSOR HUNTING: Joe Gibbs Racing continues to hunt for a sponsor for its second NASCAR Busch Grand National team. After running the first part of the year with two cars, one unsponsored, Gibbs made the decision to move to a one-car team until a sponsor could be located for the second team. All team members remained on board and the team can return to the track in a moment's notice once a sponsor is located.
