NAPA Auto Care 250 - Kevin Harvick Notes

HARVICK POISED TO TACKLE MOST DIFFICULT WEEKEND OF HAPPY'S BIG ADVENTURE

Kevin Harvick on Pikes Peak

"Pikes Peak is one of my three or four favorite tracks. It's a driver's track. You can run low, you can run the middle and you can run high. You can really race for positions on it. The racetrack wears out the tires quickly so you have to manage the tire wear and try to stay competitive as the lap times fall off."

Harvick at Pikes Peak on Saturday

Kevin Harvick will be appearing at Pikes Peak only on Saturday, therefore, RCR has acquired the services of Ed Berrier to practice and qualify the car on Friday while Harvick practices and qualifies the No. 29 GM Goodwrench Service Plus Chevrolet at Pocono.

Harvick will have to start in the back of the field at Pikes Peak, but he's up to the challenge.

"We should be ok," Harvick says. "Ed and I are similar enough in our driving styles that we can get pretty close with the car on Friday. I have a ton of confidence in Todd Berrier (crew chief of the ACDelco No. 2) I'm just going to stay patient as I try to work my way towards the front. Our first objective is to finish the race. If we can get a top 10 or top five out of it, that would be OK. If we have a car that could have a shot at the win, then we're going to go for it."

Harvick on Pocono

"We had a decent run going last time at Pocono, but we missed the setup a little. We had a top 10 car but we finished 15th because we ran out of fuel. There's a big difference between a top 10 and a top five there so we're going to focus on fine tuning the chassis. We definitely have some things to try. It's such a unique racetrack and I really like the configuration. It requires the driver to be alert and ready for anything. There's hard braking and shifting, it's a lot of fun."

"It's going to take a lot of patience and you have to be smooth because it's hard on equipment especially the brakes and transmissions."

HAPPY'S BIG ADVENTURE

There are six weekends this season where Harvick will be competing at different tracks in different states on the same weekend on the NASCAR Busch and Winston Cup Series. Pocono/Pikes Peak is weekend number four of six and the flight from Pocono to Colorado Springs and back is by far the longest trip Harvick has to make this season. However, he only goes to Pikes Peak once which is different from the other weekends in which he made several trips for qualifying practice and the race for the Busch and Winston Series events.

Happy's Big Adventure.

The Double-duty weekends are:

1. The Winston, Winston Cup, May 19th (finished 21st) & Nazareth, Busch May 20th (2nd)
2. Kentucky Busch, June 16th (finished 1st) & Pocono, Winston Cup June 17th (finished 15th)
3. Daytona Winston Cup, July 7th (25th) & Watkins Glen, Busch, July 8th (3rd)
4. Gateway, Busch, July 21st (1st) & New Hampshire (8th), Winston Cup, July 22nd
5. Pikes Peak, Busch, July 28th & Pocono, Winston Cup, July 29th
6. Memphis, Busch, October 13th & Martinsville, Winston Cup, October 14th

* Harvick is the only driver in modern NASCAR history to attempt to compete in every Winston Cup and Busch Series event in the same season. All told, at the end of the season, Harvick will have competed in 70 races, every race on both schedules except for the Daytona 500 and he will compete in one Truck race at Richmond.

* Last weekend's win at St. Louis on Saturday and Sunday's eighth place finish at Loudon, was the best weekend in terms of finishes in both races of any of the Double-Duty weekends.
