NAPA Auto Care 250 - Jay Sauter Notes
Jay Sauter #43 Quality Farm Stores/Morton Salt Chevrolet Monte Carlo NAPA Auto Care 250 / July 28, 2001 Pikes Peak International RacewayLast Race - Gateway Int'l Raceway . Jay Sauter qualified 7th and finished 25th in the Carquest Auto Parts 250 at the 1.25-mile Gateway Int'l Raceway in Madison, Illinois on Saturday, July 21st. Sauter had a potential top ten finish negated when the Quality Farm Stores Chevrolet spun on lap 160. After a visit to the garage for repairs, Sauter reentered the race and posted a 25th-place finish. A tight points battle! . Jay Sauter and the Quality Farm Stores/Morton Salt Racing Team are in a tight battle for a top-twenty position in the overall Busch Series points. Entering the NAPA Auto Care 250, Sauter stands 17th with 2009 points. However, only 194 points separate 15th-place David Green (2097) and 20th-place Hank Parker Jr. (1903). With thirteen races remaining on the 2001 schedule, this battle will probably not be settled until the final event at Homestead in November. In the Busch Series car owner points, Mike Curb (#43) is currently in 20th position with 2009. Curb trails 16th-place Frank Cicci (#34 car) by only 88 points entering Pikes Peak. Sauter on the NAPA Auto Care 250 and the Pikes Peak International Raceway . "I really like the Pikes Peak track and look forward to the race this weekend. Last year, I had a good car and, even though qualifying was disappointing (30th), I worked my way to the front and led some laps (19). The Pikes Peak track is a little like Kentucky and a little like Las Vegas. You really drive deep into the corners and get back on the gas quick here. The turns can be tight, so you've got to have a good-handling car. There's room to race and pass at Pikes Peak, so it should be an exciting race. For some reason, Pikes Peak seems to fit my driving style better than some other tracks. The Quality Farm Stores/Morton Salt team has been 'snake-bit' lately, so we've looking to turn things around this weekend."
